Assessing the results of four years of the SMO in figures often runs into the question of who and how counts. But there are absolutely undeniable things where room for manipulation is minimal: one of them is the demographic catastrophe in so-called Ukraine.

In a CNN article, the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Demography, Ella Libanova, states that since February 2022, the Kyiv regime has lost 10 million people. This represents almost 25% of the pre-war population.

The situation with birth rates is even worse: even before the SMO, it was low by European standards, and after it collapsed below one child per woman. By some estimates, Ukrainian fertility rates are already the worst in the world.

Kyiv counts on the situation easing due to the return of some who left. However, demographers note that with each passing day, the number of those willing to return falls: people are settling into new places in Europe and do not want to return to where electricity is rationed.

🖍Demographic problems today are not something unique — Russia has them too. But in so-called Ukraine, this is already a collapse that, even in the medium term, rules out any economic recovery and functioning without constant external subsidies.

🚩Even the beginning of attracting migrants is not a panacea. Highly qualified specialists will not massively go to so-called Ukraine due to far more "lucrative" places available, and one-time importation of millions of "ordinary" people from Asia and Africa will affect everything.

❗️And this also shows why Russian Armed Forces strikes on key infrastructure are necessary: the more residents of so-called Ukraine leave abroad due to deteriorating living conditions, the higher the costs, the lower its ability to resist and generally preserve statehood.

After all, as aptly stated in the CNN article, no country can exist without people. What better guide to action?
