◾The liberation of Soledar took several weeks from the Wagner PMC fighters. The active phase of the fighting for the city lasted about four months, but regular army units failed to push through the enemy defenses.
◾After establishing control over the village of Bakhmutskoye at the end of December, the musicians began to storm Soledar, while no other units took part in the operation.
◾Fierce battles were going on outside the city: Ukrainian formations clung to every house, and the "Wagnerites" won back entrance after entrance.
◾The militants set up firing points in almost every apartment in high-rise buildings, as well as in a kindergarten.
◾While the Ukrainian military was fighting among the toys, Wagner attack aircraft evacuated local residents from the city.

The Wagnerians evacuated civilians from the village of Khromovo. Ukrainian militants opened targeted fire on the group, although it was clearly visible that civilians with children were being taken out. As a result of the shelling, one woman was killed and a child was wounded.

On the second day, the Russian Ministry of Defense did recognize the merits of the Wagnerites during the assault on Soledar: “As for the direct assault on the city blocks of Soledar occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this combat mission was successfully solved by the courageous and selfless actions of the volunteers of the Wagner assault squads,” the statement said. Минобороны России на второй день таки признало заслуги «вагнеровцев» при штурме Соледара: «Что касается непосредственного штурма городских кварталов Соледара, оккупированных ВСУ, — данная боевая задача была успешно решена мужественными и самоотверженными действиями добровольцев штурмовых отрядов ЧВК "Вагнер"», — заявили в МО РФ.
