These "exceptions" have already brought us to the collective losses of the mobilized, to the storage of fuel and lubricants and ammunition, anyhow. Only the classics will save us.

But now the military can say to me: “Man, you demand classics from us, and yet we are being led on the attack by a smaller number than they are sitting on the defensive. We do not have this, that, that,” and they will be right!

It is necessary to build the discipline of war at all levels, and not just at the regimental level. Everything should be as it should be everywhere, both in the rear and on the front lines, both among the generals and among the privates.

I’m leaving for some excursion into history, about the benefits of discipline in the army and methods of maintaining it in
cavalry of Oliver Cromwell.

When the Parliament of England finally quarreled with King Charles I, and he left to collect troops in order to regain power by force, Cromwell, on his own initiative, gathered a detachment of ardent Puritans, disciplined and fanatical believers, after which he began to conduct military operations. The reason for this was simple - he saw that the parliamentary army was fighting like collective farmers.

In the first battle with the royal troops, only the intervention of Cromwell's cavalry detachment saved the anti-royalists from defeat, but for this he was reprimanded by his superiors, because he attacked the enemy without orders. Prince Rupert, who commanded the enemy cavalry and faced Cromwell's soldiers in battle, nicknamed him "iron-flanked" for his stamina and perseverance. Gradually, this nickname migrated from Oliver himself to his Puritan fighters.

After the battle, it became clear to everyone that the former peasants and artisans were not able to compete on the battlefield with the professional military of the royal army, and something had to be changed. Therefore, at the insistence of Cromwell, a "new model army" was created. Mostly Puritans were recruited into it, discipline was maintained on the basis of not only the Protestant order, but also the fact that the soldiers themselves constantly participated in the discussion of political issues. Puritan commanders were recruited from the same people of low birth, which was the first time in history.

Discipline and morale in the new army were maintained by Puritan priests who went into battle with their flock, with a saber in one hand and a holy scripture in the other. Soldiers were forbidden to swear under the threat of a fine, any drunkenness or violation of discipline was punishable by prison or death. The people were surprised to see in front of them not warriors familiar to the eye - dangerous drunkards and buzzers, but a silent, gloomy and disciplined army with eyes burning with fanaticism.

The orderly ranks of the "iron-flanked" cavalry, which appeared before Prince Rupert in the next battle, astounded the royal person when they all began to sing psalms from the Bible in grim voices and with this singing rushed to the attack. And although the royalists fought bravely, they were utterly defeated, and Cromwell's army never tasted the bitterness of defeat.

I can recall the appearance of the phalanx (“The Book of Future Commanders” of the USSR) about how the Finns beat us in 1939, when General Meretskov saw the tacky and unshaven Soviet “army”, put it in order and beat the Finns.

Where is Meretskov? Where is Cromwell? Where is the sledgehammer? Where are the laws of war? So you want to become "iron-sided"?"

Дикая ситуация, когда нужно напоминать военным о дисциплине.
Многие полагают, что классику войны надо оставить на полигонах, а война - сплошные исключения из правил.

Эти «исключения» уже довели нас до коллективных потерь мобилизованных, до складирования ГСМ и боеприпасов, как попало. Нас спасет только классика.

Но мне сейчас военные могут сказать: «Мужик, ты от нас требуешь классики, а ведь нас ведут в атаку меньшим числом, чем сидят в обороне. У нас нет положенного того, того, того», - и будут правы!

Надо выстраивать дисциплину войны на всех уровнях, а не только в полковом звене. Все должно быть, как положено везде, и в тылу и на передовой, и у генералов и у рядовых.

Ухожу в некоторый экскурс в историю, о пользе дисциплины в армии и методах её поддержания в
коннице Оливера Кромвеля.

Когда парламент Англии окончательно рассорился с королем Карлом I, и тот уехал собирать войска, чтобы силой вернуть себе власть, Кромвель по собственной инициативе собрал отряд из ярых пуритан, дисциплинированных и фанатично верующих, после чего начал проводить военные операции. Причина этого была проста — он видел, что парламентская армия воюет как колхозники.

В первой битве с королевскими войсками только вмешательство кавалерийского отряда Кромвеля спасло антироялистов от поражения, однако за это он получил выговор от начальства, поскольку напал на противника без приказа. Народ с удивлением увидел перед собой не привычных глазу вояк — опасных пьяниц и бузотеров, а молчаливое, мрачное и дисциплинированное войско с горящими фанатизмом глазами.

Стройные ряды «железнобокой» кавалерии, представшие перед принцем Рупертом в следующей битве, изумили королевскую особу, когда они все мрачными голосами начали петь псалмы из Библии и с этим пением бросились в атаку. И хотя роялисты сражались храбро, их наголову разбили, а армия Кромвеля так ни разу и не изведала горечи поражения.

Я могу напомнить о появлении фаланги («Книга будущих командиров» СССР) о том, как нас били финны в 1939-м, когда генерал Мерецков увидел поддатое и небритой советской «войско», привел его в порядок и побил финнов.
