The occupation destroyed 90% of Rafah during its first invasion in early May 2024, affecting most residential buildings, infrastructure networks, and public, service, and health facilities.
More than 500 families remain trapped and besieged in Rafah, particularly in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in the west of the city, and "there is no precise information about their fate" after contact with them was cut off.
The occupation forces failed to implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement. The security strip along the border with Egypt was supposed to be limited to a depth of 600 meters. Instead, they cut off more than 1,200 meters inside the city, preventing residents from returning to 60% of Rafah's total area.
