Unusual activity is unfolding today at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, as at least ten C-17A Globemaster IIIs from the U.S. Air Force are either arriving at the base or en route across the Atlantic from the United States. Most of these aircraft appear to be coming from Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, which is home to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, and the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). Others are likely departing from Campbell Army Airfield in Kentucky, where the 101st Airborne Division and the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 160th SOAR are based.
