In a leaked phone call obtained by The Palestinian Observer, senior officials discuss an escalating campaign that — according to the callers — aims to strip the Palestinian Authority of its powers, seize public funds, and push large swathes of the West Bank under direct Israeli control.

According to the recording, callers say Israeli authorities have demanded the evacuation of Palestinian positions and police stations in Area C, threatened banks and financial channels so that salaries and transfers can be withheld, and ordered measures that would prevent teachers, ministers and public servants from carrying out official duties. If true, these steps would be catastrophic: Area C constitutes a large portion of the West Bank and is already central to control over land, resources, and movement.
