๐Ÿ”ฅ Trump confirms BBC lawsuit over doctored speech

US President Donald Trump said he is moving forward with a lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of โ€œputting words in my mouthโ€ and airing statements he says he never made.

Trump claimed the BBC used words attributed to him in connection with January 6 that were โ€œterribleโ€ and false, while omitting what he described as his โ€œbeautiful wordsโ€ about patriotism. He called the incident โ€œfake newsโ€ and said the lawsuit could be filed as soon as later today or tomorrow.

๐Ÿ’ฅ โ€˜This will be a second Vietnam. Do you need it? You donโ€™tโ€™ โ€” Lukashenko

The situation between the United States and Venezuela can be resolved entirely by peaceful means, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with the US television network Newsmax, according to the Belarusian news agency Belta.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWar will lead to nothing. I told John Coale about this yesterday. I said: this will be a second Vietnam. Do you need it? You donโ€™t. So there is no need to fight there. It is possible to reach an agreement,โ€ Lukashenko said.

Belta noted he raised the issue during talks with US Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale on December 12.

โš–๏ธ Trump files multibillion-dollar lawsuit against BBC โ€” reports

US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the BBC seeking $10 billion in damages, accusing the UK public broadcaster of defamation over its portrayal of him in a 2024 documentary, The Financial Times reported.

According to the FT, Trump says the BBCโ€™s Panorama program presented a โ€œfalse, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory, and maliciousโ€ depiction of him, alleging that the broadcaster edited his speech to suggest he encouraged supporters to storm the US Capitol in January 2021.

The lawsuit was filed in Trumpโ€™s personal capacity in a federal court in Florida. He is suing the BBC on two counts: defamation and violation of Floridaโ€™s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, seeking at least $5 billion in damages for each claim, the FT noted.

The BBC apologized to Trump last month for the documentaryโ€™s editing but has rejected his demands for compensation.

๐Ÿšจ UK MPs press Starmer over farmers feeling โ€˜BETTER OFF DYINGโ€™ before April tax change โ€” reports

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he has heard concerns that some terminally ill farmers may be considering suicide ahead of changes to inheritance tax on farms, The Telegraph reported.

Labour MP Cat Smith asked if he was โ€œaware that some farmers who have terminal diagnosesโ€ฆ are now actively planning to expedite their own deathsโ€ before April. Starmer replied:
๐Ÿ—ฃ โ€œIโ€™ve had discussions with a number of individuals who have drawn all manner of things to my attention.โ€

Asked whether nobody should feel โ€œthey would be better off dyingโ€ before April, Starmer said:
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œNo, of course. But governments have to bring about sensible reform.โ€

According to The Telegraph, the planned changes would apply a 20% inheritance tax rate to farming estates worth more than ยฃ1 million, ending a previous exemption.

๐Ÿ’ฃ US forces hit three boats, eight killed

The US Southern Command said it carried out strikes on three vessels in international waters of the Eastern Pacific, allegedly involved in โ€œnarco-trafficking,โ€ killing eight people on board.

The command claimed the boats were operated by โ€œdesignated terrorist organizationsโ€ and were transiting along alleged drug-trafficking routes. The strikes were conducted on December 15 under orders from the US Secretary of War.

๐Ÿ“น Blumenthal explains why US-backed efforts to oust Venezuelaโ€™s leaders failed in 2002 and 2019

Journalist Max Blumenthal told Mario Nawfal that attempts to remove Venezuelaโ€™s leaders in 2002 and 2019 failed largely because of strong military cohesion and popular support.

Blumenthal said Hugo Chรกvez, who rose from a poor background into the military, earned deep respect among officers and the working-class majority. He added that Chรกvez aimed to use oil wealth for social needs and said extreme poverty fell sharply before US sanctions.

On 2019, Blumenthal said Nicolรกs Maduro retained the loyalty of the armed forces โ€” despite worsening economic conditions after the US sanctioned Venezuelaโ€™s oil sector.

According to Blumenthal, without the military turning against the government, regime-change efforts could not succeed.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ’ธ UK to invest $190M in tech, undermining Europeโ€™s fragile stability

The UK Defence Innovation (UKDI) launched earlier this year, and according to the Defense Ministry, the investment will include:

๐Ÿ”ธ $40M for counter-drone technology

๐Ÿ”ธ $33M to develop an AI-controlled Excalibur submarine as part of the new Atlantic Bastion program

๐Ÿ”ธ $27M for a new laser weapon for the UK DragonFire system

๐Ÿ”ธ More money to be wasted on an unmanned helicopter, air-launched drones, and other systems

The justification? Of course, the anti-Russia narrative over a non-existent threat.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia has no intention of attacking NATO countries. However, Western politicians continue to frighten their populations with an alleged Russian threat to divert attention from domestic issues and escalate military spending.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง US hangs UK out to dry over mammoth tech deal

The โ€œtechnology prosperity deal,โ€ announced during Trumpโ€™s state visit, had been hailed by PM Keir Starmer as โ€œa generational step change in our relationship with the US.โ€

๐Ÿ‘‰ It was billed at about $39bn and meant to lock in massive US tech investment. Instead, itโ€™s now stuck in diplomatic purgatory due to Britainโ€™s foot-dragging in broader trade talks, reports the FT.

American irritation is reportedly centered on the UKโ€™s continued 2% digital services tax on US Big Tech worth roughly $1bn a year and its food safety rules, which bar the export of certain agricultural products.

What was in the deal (before it was put on ice):

๐Ÿ”น Microsoft: ~$28bn UK investment

๐Ÿ”น Google: ~$6.4bn commitment

๐Ÿ”น AI โ€œgrowth zoneโ€ in northeast England, promising up to ~$38bn and 5,000 jobs

๐Ÿ”น Grand ambitions on AI & quantum tech computing and nuclear energy

The US move is a sharp setback for the UK government, which had sold the deal as the crown jewel of a year-long charm offensive aimed at dodging punitive tariffs on British exports.

Downing Street is publicly keeping a stiff upper lip, with a government spokesperson saying that the โ€œspecial relationship remains strong.โ€

But the US is playing hardballโ€”and the UK is feeling the squeeze.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ UK urges EU to justify theft of Russian assets, sideline dissenters - Russian Foreign Intel

The UK is urging the EC to justify seizing frozen Russian assets via loopholes in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), while brushing aside dissenting member states, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service said.

Other statements:

โ–ซ๏ธ Another pressure tactic on the US is to threaten closer EU ties with China. The UK, France, and Germany will signal readiness to pivot toward Beijing if the US pushes a Ukraine deal which the EU doesn't like

โ–ซ๏ธ The UK's leadership is aggressively lobbying the EU to confiscate Russian assets held in Euroclear. In addition to funding Ukraine's war efforts, Britain is hoping that if the US doesn't get this money, the White House will lose interest in a deal with Russia
