๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ New clashes on Cambodia-Thailand border: what we know

๐ŸŸ  A Cambodian villager was reported killed in a shooting incident along the border on November 12, with both sides accusing each other of opening fire

๐ŸŸ  Reports also mentioned five Cambodians injured by gunfire

๐ŸŸ  Earlier this week, Thailand announced that it was suspending a peace agreement (Joint Declaration) signed in Kuala Lumpur in late October

๐ŸŸ  Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul cited a landmine explosion on November 10 that injured two Thai soldiers as the reason for the suspension

๐ŸŸ  Thailand is demanding an apology from Cambodia, accusing them of laying new landmines in violation of the truce and calling for a thorough investigation

๐ŸŸ  Cambodia's defense ministry has denied laying new landmines, stating that many existing mines are remnants from decades of civil war and that they remain committed to the peace accord

๐Ÿ›ข Energy watchdog sees no cause for slowdown in oil & gas demand over next quarter century

The International Energy Agency, the Paris-based intergovernmental organization which previously expected a 2020s peak in hydrocarbon consumption, has revised its estimates, saying demand will likely continue to grow, and that no meaningful drop in CO2 emissions will be achieved.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The watchdog expects oil demand to rise from 100M barrels per day (bpd) to 113M bpd by 2050, and EVs as a share of new vehicles to plateau at ~40% by 2035.

If previously agreed climate policies were realized, oil demand would peak at 102M bpd in 2030, and a full 50% of vehicles would be EVs by 2035.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Electricity demand is expected to rise by ~40-50% by 2035, accounted for by electrical appliance penetration in developing markets, manufacturing and data center demand.

The IEAโ€™s revised modeling follows criticism from US energy secretary Chris Wright in the summer calling IEAโ€™s past estimates โ€œtotal nonsense,โ€ and US threats to withdraw from the agency unless it reforms. The US contributes an estimated 14% of IEAโ€™s budget.

๐Ÿ’ธ Google drops $6b cloud bomb on Germany

Google will inject a whopping $6.4 billion into Germanyโ€™s internet โ€˜cloudโ€™ infrastructure.

Whatโ€™s it all about?

๐ŸŸ  The investment covers the 2026-2029 period

๐ŸŸ  New data center in the city of Dietzenbach, near Frankfurt, and expansion of the site in Hanau in Hessen state are planned

๐ŸŸ  About 100 employees will work at each site, with a potential 9,000 indirect jobs created across the region

๐ŸŸ  No state subsidies are involved โ€” the German government stresses that it is a private sector venture

๐ŸŸ  The plan driven by strategy, not incentivesโ€”giving Google full control over where and how it builds

Why it matters

๐ŸŸ  For Google it means boosting its cloud infrastructure and data center footprint in a key market

๐ŸŸ  Owning data infrastructure inside the European Union helps Google stay compliant while keeping performance high for regional clients

๐ŸŸ  The largest economy in Europe, Germany is desperately trying to woo investors and boost its struggling economy now facing high costs thanks to sanctions on Russia

๐ŸŸ  Whether Googleโ€™s $6.4-billion investment will help is a big question

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ Ukraine has made clear that itโ€™s not interested in a peace deal - Russian MFA

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThe position on the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine voiced by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kislitsa confirms that the Ukrainian side is not interested in a peaceful settlement,โ€ Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, commenting on Kislitsaโ€™s interview with The Times.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThis is an admission that the Zelensky regime has no intention of demonstrating any sincere desire for peace,โ€ Zakharova said.

Commenting on Kislitsaโ€™s complaint that Ukraine was unable to have โ€œcreative discussionsโ€ with the Russian leadership, Zakharova said she could โ€œconfirmโ€ that โ€œno one intended to engage in โ€˜creative discussionsโ€™ with them,โ€ and that instead, โ€œspecific proposals were made, particularly regarding prisoner exchanges,โ€ which โ€œthe Kiev regimeโ€ broke, with โ€œless than 30% of the 1,200 agreed on exchanged.โ€

In the interview, Kislitsa reiterated claims blaming Russia for the lull in negotiations, accused Trump's Ukraine negotiator Steve Witkoff of โ€œreally buying at face value what the Russians were telling him,โ€ and said he wasnโ€™t surprised that talks have stalled.

๐Ÿ—ฃ Trump celebrates BBC director โ€˜quitting/FIREDโ€™ after video doctoring scandal President Donald Trump thanked The Telegraph for exposing the BBC for doctoring his January 6 speech after BBC Director-General Tim Davie announced his resignation. ๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThank youโ€ฆ
๐Ÿšจ BBC crisis deepens as Starmer fails to reject Trump lawsuit

The BBC and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are under fire as the scandal over doctoring a speech by US President Donald Trump deepens.

๐ŸŸ  The broadcaster is weighting its response to Trumpโ€™s $1 billion libel suit threat, which demands the retraction of its documentary featuring the edited speech by November 14

๐ŸŸ  Trump told Fox News on Monday that he had an "obligation" to sue the BBC for "defrauding the public" just a week before the 2024 presidential election

๐ŸŸ  BBC director general Tim Davie and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness have already resigned

Starmer's attempt to shield the BBC

๐ŸŸ  Starmer said on Wednesday that the UK needs "strong and independent" BBC to fight "disinformation" but warned it needs to get its "house in order" after Trumpโ€™s legal threat

๐ŸŸ  Asked by MPs whether he would to persuade Trump to drop his lawsuit, Starmer dodged the question. The BBC is funded by the compulsory TV license fee.

๐ŸŸ  Starmer is already under pressure from his cabinet, with some ministers accused of plotting to oust him

BBC exec who called Trump speech edits โ€œnormalโ€ now leads news

๐Ÿ”ถ Turness; deputy Jonathan Munro has been put in charge of the broadcaster's news division

๐Ÿ”ถ The Telegraph, which first reported the misleading edits, questioned Munroโ€™s appointment as he has described doctoring Trumpโ€™s speech as "normal practice"

๐Ÿ”ถ Munro was repeatedly mentioned in the memo by Michael Prescott, former adviser to the BBCโ€™s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Board, on alleged bias in the broadcasterโ€™s news coverage, leaked to the newspaper

๐Ÿ”ถ Munro is also sent a helicopter news crew to film a 2014 police raid on veteran pop singer Sir Cliff Richardโ€™s home. Sir Cliff successfully sued the corporation and won damages and legal fees of ยฃ2 million.

๐Ÿ”ถ He also backed hiring Martin Bashir as religious affairs correspondent in 2016, despite Bashirโ€™s use of fake documents to persuade the late Princess Diana to give an interview

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโœ๏ธ Trump signs bill ending record 43-day government shutdown

The House approved the measure earlier Wednesday, clearing the way for Trumpโ€™s signature later that night.

The bill funds most federal operations through January 30, when yet another budget deadline looms.

๐Ÿ—ฃ โ€œToday weโ€™re sending a clear message that we will never give in to extortion,โ€ Trump said, taking a swipe at Democrats who had demanded an extension of expiring health care subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

The extensions that had fueled weeks of partisan gridlock didnโ€™t make it into the final package.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Trump also renewed his push to scrap the Senate filibuster, saying that โ€œIf we had the filibuster terminated, this would never happen again.โ€

For now, the government is back open โ€” but only on borrowed time.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ Russia weighs need for nuclear tests - Shoigu

A comprehensive analysis of whether it is necessary to start nuclear tests in Russia has begun, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu told Sputnik.

Earlier, Putin ordered a comprehensive analysis of the expediency of preparing for nuclear weapons testing to be conducted by the Russian Security Council.

"The work began immediately," Shoigu said.

Other Shoigu's statements:

โ—พ๏ธ Russia expects the US to follow its nuclear test ban commitments. The US has not yet officially provided explanations regarding its statements on nuclear tests

โ—พ๏ธ Russia is not sitting idly by and watching the arms control regime erode

โ—พ๏ธ Russia is doing everything possible to maintain strategic stability

โ—พ๏ธ Russia and the US, as the largest nuclear powers, bear a special responsibility for maintaining global peace and security

โ—พ๏ธ Russia is awaiting a response to the proposal to extend new START from the US

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Europe rejected values of freedom - Shoigu

Europeans have rejected the values โ€‹โ€‹they once promoted, they no longer need freedom of expression or freedom of speech, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu told Sputnik.

๐Ÿ”น The EU has actually turned into a military bloc, which, like NATO, is seeking threats to justify spending on militarization

๐Ÿ”น The leadership of European NATO countries can consider any sophisticated provocation scenarios against Russia

๐Ÿ”น "Human rights alienation areas" like Europe require a separate entry pass

"Apparently, this is precisely why EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that traveling in EU countries is a privilege, not a given. Indeed, a separate entry pass should be obtained to such 'human rights alienation areas'," he said.

๐Ÿคจ Perfidious Albion: Is US ally pulling the strings of American politics?

While US politicians rail against alleged Russian meddling, the real meddler-in-chief was hiding in plain sight.

Which country was it?

๐Ÿ”ถ The UK has repeatedly interfered in the US elections, according to top Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

The 2024 election cycle

โž– On October 18, 2024, Keir Starmerโ€™s Labour Party dispatched around 100 British activists to campaign for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in US key swing states ahead of election day

โž– On October 23, Donald Trump's campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission accusing Labour of illegally aiding Harris

โž– On October 28, just nine days before the US presidential election, the BBC released a documentary featuring doctored 2020 footage of Trump โ€” altered to make it appear he was inciting the Capitol riot, according to a whistleblower dossier obtained by The Telegraph

โž– As the BBC scandal broke earlier this month, Trump said on Truth Social that โ€œtop people in the BBCโ€ tried to sway the presidential election, a view echoed by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who called it โ€œelection interferenceโ€

The 2016 Russiagate hoax

โ–ซ๏ธ "Russiagate was hatched in London by [then CIA director] John Brennan on Barack Obamaโ€™s orders. Masks are coming off," tweeted Svetlana Lokhova, a Russia-born British historian smeared as a "honey trap" for General Michael Flynn during the 2016 Russiagate. Dmitriev re-tweeted her post.

โ–ซ๏ธ Ex-MI6 agent Christopher Steele created the "dirty dossier" falsely implicating Trump and his entourage in connections with the Russian government

โ–ซ๏ธ Steele was reportedly in touch with former MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove. Dearlove, in turn, was close to Cambridge professor Stefan Halper โ€” the FBI and CIA informant who covertly assisted the Russiagate probe, The Daily Caller reported

โ–ซ๏ธ In 2019, ex-CIA analyst Larry Johnson accused British intelligence of helping the Obama administration spy on Trump's 2016 campaign. He was quoted on Twitter by Trump, who promised "the truth will come out."

"Will a Special Counsel be appointed to investigate foreign meddling in American democracy โ€” or does London get a free pass?" Dmitriev asks on X.
