Egypt will open the Grand Egyptian Museum on Saturday, according to CBS News. The $1 billion landmark โ€” decades in the making โ€” will host dozens of foreign leaders and dignitaries for its official opening ceremony.

The museum, located about a mile from the pyramids of Giza, is the largest in the world dedicated to a single civilization. Its exhibits span some 7,000 years of Egyptian history, from prehistory to the Roman era.

CBS News reported that more than 100,000 artifacts will be displayed, including the full collection of King Tutankhamunโ€™s treasures and a massive statue of Ramses II.

Officials hope the new museum will draw up to 5 million visitors annually and strengthen Egyptโ€™s tourism industry.

๐ŸŒช Hurricane Melissa hits Jamaica, causing flooding and damage โ€” reports Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm on the Saffirโ€“Simpson scale, made landfall near New Hope in Westmoreland Parish around 12:02 p.m. local time (2:02 p.m. ET), the Jamaica Observerโ€ฆ
๐ŸŒช Hurricane Melissa devastates Caribbean islands

At least dozens of people have been killed after Hurricane Melissa tore through Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica, leaving widespread destruction, according to The New York Post.

Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 185 mph (295 km/h) before weakening over Cuba. Roofs were ripped off homes, power lines collapsed, and landslides blocked roads.

Officials in Haiti reported 25 dead and 18 missing, while at least eight people were killed in Jamaica. In Cuba, more than 700,000 residents remain in shelters amid collapsed buildings and flooding.

Jamaicaโ€™s Prime Minister Andrew Holness said recovery โ€œwill take time,โ€ with relief efforts underway. Cubaโ€™s President Miguel Dรญaz-Canel vowed to begin rebuilding โ€œas soon as conditions allow.โ€

The hurricane is now moving toward the Bahamas as a Category 2 storm, with authorities urging evacuations ahead of expected flooding and storm surge.

๐Ÿฐ Top Trump officials move into military bases after security threats

Several senior Trump officials โ€” including Stephen and Katie Miller, Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, and Dan Driscoll โ€” have relocated to homes on US military bases around Washington, according to The Atlantic.

The moves followed the assassination of activist Charlie Kirk and a wave of protests and online harassment targeting officials, described by Stephen Miller as โ€œorganized campaigns of dehumanization, vilification, posting peoples' addresses.โ€

The Millers, after repeated demonstrations outside their Virginia home, joined others now living in secure military housing such as Fort McNair, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall โ€” locations usually reserved for senior officers.

๐ŸŒง Two dead after record New York City flooding โ€“ reports

Police said a 39-year-old man was found dead in a flooded Brooklyn basement, while another 43-year-old man died in a boiler room in Washington Heights, ABC News reported.

The National Weather Service recorded 1.8 inches of rain in Central Park and 1.97 inches at LaGuardia Airport, both breaking century-old records.

More than 1,000 flights were canceled across the US, mostly in the Northeast. Officials said the storm was not linked to Hurricane Melissa, but to an inland weather system moving through the region.

๐Ÿ’€โŒ Ukraine doesnโ€™t want to take back its dead soldiers - Russian MFA envoy

Russia is holding a large number of bodies of Ukrainian soldiers and is ready to hand them over โ€” but Ukraine only pretends to be interested, MFA envoy Rodion Miroshnik told Sputnik.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The desire to retrieve the bodies exists "only in words," Miroshnik said, adding that for Kievโ€™s elites, Ukrainian soldiers are expendable.

He added that Ukrainian officials avoid taking back the remains to hide real losses, maintain the image of an "invincible army," and even save money on compensations to families.

โš”๏ธUS resumption of nuclear tests would push world to brink โ€“ German MP

๐Ÿ—ฃ US President Donald Trump's plans to resume nuclear weapons testing represent yet another dangerous escalation, Sevim Dagdelen, a foreign policy expert for Germany's Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance for Reason and Justice party, told Sputnik.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "A return to actual nuclear testing would violate a taboo that would bring the world closer to a nuclear war," Dagdelen emphasized.

According to her, this escalation is also linked to Americaโ€™s withdrawal from key disarmament agreements and marks a dangerous departure from the policy the US has followed for decades.

๐ŸšจUkraine's media ban on encircled troops seen as admission of military collapse โ€” Russian MoD

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministryโ€™s ban on foreign and local media accessing Ukrainian troops trapped in the โ€œcauldronsโ€ is an admission of disaster for the remaining Ukrainian forces in Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), Dimitrov, and Kupyansk, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "The official representative of Ukraineโ€™s Foreign Ministry thus effectively confirmed that there are no longer any other ways for journalists or Ukrainian troops to enter or leave the โ€œcauldrons,โ€ except through Russian humanitarian corridors."

Ukraine's ban on media access is also intended to deceive both the international community and Ukraineโ€™s own citizens:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "The leadership of the Kiev regime is trying to preserve conditions for embezzling Western funds allocated for the war with Russia."
