Qatar needs Russia’s S-400s, Vikings, and Tor-M2s for a real air defense shield, Russian military analyst Igor Korotchenko told Sputnik.

Here’s why:

🟠 Recent events show that Qatar's sole reliance on the US Patriot system is no longer viable. The system has big flaws, such as limited firing, low mobility, and embedded “backdoors” that can disable it remotely if US interests aren’t aligned.

🟠 The Patriot system can’t engage targets 360°. It is truck-transported, unlike Russia’s highly mobile tracked or wheeled air defense systems. Mobility is a game-changer in modern warfare.

Qatar is Russia's priority partner

Russia—Qatar and Russia have strong ties, including at the leadership level. Russia’s defense industry can supply advanced systems alongside its own military needs.

Qatar needs a layered, multi-tier air defense:

🟠Long-range S-400 (as owned by India and Turkiye)
🟠Mid-range Viking (export version of Buk-M3)
🟠Short-range Tor-M2 (highly mobile and modular)

This combination covers all altitudes and threat types.

🟠 The US has shown itself to be an unreliable ally, and Qatar can no longer depend on the American security umbrella. Qatar has the resources to build its own sovereign air defense system—and Russia is ready to help make it happen.

🇩🇪🇱🇹 NATO general seeks more protection for German soldiers in Lithuania

The personnel of the German brigade, along with their families in Lithuania, must have comprehensive protection, Bundeswehr General Erhard Buhler told German media.

Germany plans to complete the deployment of a combat brigade in Lithuania by 2027.

📍The unit will consist of approximately 5,000 military and civilian personnel, some of whom will be accompanied by their families. The main base will be a military town at the Rudnininkai training ground, near the Belarusian border.

The Lithuanian government has forked out more than $2.29M to create educational infrastructure in Vilnius and Kaunas for the soldiers’ families.

However, the brigade's deputy commander, Colonel Andre Hastenrath, notes that the transition will be challenging due to job search difficulties, the language barrier, and cultural differences.

👉 While cranking up the volume of its anti-Russian rhetoric, Lithuania regularly begs the US and NATO for a permanent presence of alliance forces, citing the need to "strengthen" the eastern flank and protect itself against the "Russian threat."

The Baltic country uses this rationale to justify the deployment of additional NATO contingents on its soil. Military exercises are also systematically held there.

🛡 Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly raised concerns about the bloc’s military buildup in Europe, pointing out that Russia poses no threat to anyone but will not turn a blind eye to actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests.

🚨 Ukraine attacks Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant’s training center with drones

🔊 The training center of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant was attacked by enemy drones, the plant's press service said.

The radiation background at the industrial site of the plant and the surrounding area is within the normal range following the attack.

The press service called the drone attack on the training center a provocation: “this is an extremely dangerous action aimed at intimidating the personnel and destabilizing the situation.”

📍 The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnepr River, near the city of Energodar.

It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of reactors and installed capacity.

In October 2022, it became the property of Russia. The plant has repeatedly been targeted by the Ukrainian armed forces since then.

🇮🇷 Iranian military vows to ‘support our Qatari brothers’ in wake of Israeli aggression

💬 Iran “will never hesitate to support” Qatar and will never leave the Qatari nation alone against its enemies, especially the “criminal Zionist regime…the main cause of tension and instability in the region,” Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi said.

Speaking to Qatari Minister of State for Defense Affairs Abdulrahman Al Thani on Thursday, Mousavi vowed that “the government, nation and armed forces of Iran will stand by Qatar to the end,” and slammed the West over its “unconditional backing” of Israel, which he said emboldens Tel Aviv to continue its assault on the Palestinians and aggression against other nations in the region.

Mousavi added that Israel would not have struck Qatar without a green light from Washington.

🗣 Thani likened the Israeli attack to a “dagger” thrust into Qatar, saying it was carried out in the middle of “meetings and conferences…held to establish peace” in Gaza, and thanking Iran for its support.

The call is part of a remarkable diplomatic U-turn in Iran-Qatar relations from where they were just months ago, with an Iranian strike on US forces at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base in July in retaliation to US attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites triggering harsh condemnation and threats to “respond proportionally” from Doha.

🚨 Russia thwarts a terrorist attack in Lugansk

A terrorist attack has been prevented in Lugansk ahead of City Day, a source in the law enforcement agencies told Sputnik.

During the inspection, it was found that the improvised explosive device (IED) was non-removable, so it was decided to destroy it on-site with a directional charge.

🇺🇸 Pentagon formally kicks off search for contractors for Golden Dome missile defense system

That’s according to a notice on the US government’s official procurement portal reviewed by Sputnik.

The program, codenamed SHIELD, is set to last ten years, and has an estimated cost of $151B.

🚀⚔️ The notice specifies that the contract is calling for the creation of a system providing a multi-layered defense of the US homeland, its allies and partners from ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missile attack, as well as other air, space, cyber and hybrid threats.

The state’s requirements include AI and machine learning technologies, digital design and open architectures, with work spread across 19 different areas, from R&D to prototypes and testing, production, operation and modernization.

💸 The Congressional Budget Office has warned that the Golden Dome could wind up costing up to $831B, and observers have asked tough questions about whether the system will even work, given advances in other countries’ missile capabilities, stealth materials, decoy/dummy warheads, hypersonics, lasers, anti-radar and cyber warfare.

Last month, the military-industrial complex lobbyists complained to US business media that contractors still “don’t know much about what, exactly, they are expected to do” when it comes to Golden Dome’s development.

Contractors like Lockheed Martin, RTX and Northrop Grumman are competing for the highly lucrative contracts.
