Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately prolonging the war in the region to avert the collapse of his political career, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' advisor Mahmoud al-Habbash told Sputnik.

🗣 A ceasefire wouldn’t just bring scrutiny over the war—it could also drag him back into the corruption scandals still hanging over his head, he said.

💬 “I don't think Netanyahu wants a truce—he wants war. From his point of view, any pause or end to the war will only bring his departure from the political scene in Israel closer, because it will open the door to legal and judicial liability against him in many cases.”

👉 According to the advisor, ending the war at any cost is a priority for the Palestinian leadership, which is trying to deprive Netanyahu of any justifications and pretexts for continuing aggression against the Palestinian people.
But with America’s full-throttle backing, Netanyahu feels emboldened to widen the battlefield—from Gaza to Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, even Syria, al-Habbash warned.

💬 “The current Israeli government believes only in expansion, war, and brute force,” he said, stressing that only real international pressure can force Netanyahu into a ceasefire and a political track to defuse the conflict.

🗣 Iran has developed a new generation of missiles with greater capabilities, Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh told reporters.

💬 “Today we have manufactured and deployed missiles with far better capabilities compared to those used previously, and if the Zionist enemy embarks on another adventurism, we will definitely use these missiles,” he said, according to state media.

🗣 He noted that “all the logistical, intelligence and support capabilities of the United States” were behind the confrontation with Iranian forces, which relied entirely on domestically produced systems.

⏯️ The defense minister said that during the 12-day escalation, Israel used its most advanced defense systems, including THAAD, Patriot, Iron Dome, and Arrow. While in the early days, only about 40% of Iran’s missiles were intercepted, towards the end, 90% of them were hitting their targets, he claimed.

🚔 👮‍♀️ Ukrainian suspect in Nord Stream sabotage arrested in Italy – German prosecutors

🟠 German prosecutors have announced the arrest of Ukrainian citizen Sergei K. in Italy, suspected of coordinating the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in 2022. The arrest was made on August 21, 2025, based on a European arrest warrant issued by Germany’s Federal Court.

🟠 He is believed to have been part of a group that placed explosive devices on the pipelines near Bornholm in September 2022.

🟠 The operation involved using a sailing yacht rented with forged documents, which left Rostock before the explosive devices detonated on September 26, causing significant damage to the pipelines.

📍 Once extradited from Italy, Sergei K. will face a judge in Germany for further proceedings.
