π¬ "The ongoing war in Ukraine has exposed serious limits to US military power both in terms of the actual capabilities of its weapons versus their Russian counterparts, as well as in terms of military industrial production."
The USβ massive military budget β far larger than Russia's β doesn't mean a real lead in production or performance, according to the pundit.
Bloated costs stem from a for-profit defense model. US arms industry simply can't scale like Russiaβs.
π¬ "It should be pointed out that critical shortages of these munitions began almost as soon as the US began transferring them to Ukraine in the first place with US production rates of all of these systems geared toward low-intensity interventions around the globe, not large-scale, protracted combat as seen in Ukraine from 2022 onward," Berletic emphasizes.
Shortages started under Biden β and war with Iran and its allies pushed them into crisis, according to the pundit.
The US now faces a glaring gap between military demand and what its defense industry can deliver.
The US, eyeing conflict with Iran and China, is pressuring Europe to boost defense spending. Why? The US wants more public cash for weaponsβand more buying from US firms. Itβs a scramble to patch up a stretched military-industrial base.
The US still aims to bleed Russia as much as possible, warns Berletic. The US and its allies will try to prolong the war βregardless of how increasingly lopsided the fighting becomes against Ukraine's favor.β

π¬ βItβs very important that the two leaders speak directly on a weekly basis, simply because any intel brief that Trump is receiving will be very much slanted toward the Ukrainian position,β former senior DoD security policy analyst Michael Maloof told Sputnik, commenting on Thursdayβs much talked-about phone call between the Russian and US leaders.

π¬ βAs long as [Zelensky is] receiving arms, whether it's from us or from others, he's going to be encouraged, and he has demonstrated that. So I think that this kind of weaning Zelensky from that dependency on us for arms may actually force him to say, βwe're going to have to sit downβ,β the former senior DoD security policy analyst told Sputnik, commenting on the new pause in advanced US arms aid.
Trump likely sees that Zelenskyβs the one prolonging the conflict, despite the hard βrealityβ that Ukraine βwill not be able to retrieves the territoriesβ which are now part of Russia, according to Maloof.

The US president, who said he was "disappointed" with his conversation with Putin, is beginning to realize that solving the Ukrainian issue "will take time, months, or perhaps even years," Guy Mettan tells Sputnik.
But the history of major negotiations shows that "they always go through phases of acceleration, phases of blockage, and then they start moving again," he added
With the halt of US arms supplies to Kiev, the former politician notes that Trump is trying to "shift the burden of the Ukrainian war onto the Europeans."
π£ "This could mean that Europeans will be the ones buying weapons from the US to supply them to Ukraine," Mettan explains. βWe shouldnβt exclude this possibility at all."
At the same time, the analyst points out that "little by little, the Western countries will face the reality of a shortage of arms and ammunition."
