πŸ‡¦πŸ‡²β˜¦οΈCrackdown on clergy signals future power grab in Armenia – analyst

πŸ—£ The arrest of Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan and mounting pressure on the Armenian Apostolic Church are part of a broader crackdown by Nikol Pashinyan’s government, the chairman of Armenia’s Political Scientists Association, Mihran Shahzadeyan, told Sputnik.

✍️ He emphasized the historic role of the Church as the unifying force in Armenian identity, especially before 1918. Even today, it remains the most respected institution in the country. Its stance on national issues is increasingly clashing with the government’s policies. Shahzadeyan recalled how Catholicos Garegin II publicly called for Pashinyan’s resignation and continues to question his fitness to lead the country.

🟠 Shahzadeyan believes these actions are linked to next year’s elections, suggesting the authorities are trying to "clear the field" of influential opposition forces, with the Church being a key target due to its social influence.

🟠 He also pointed to increased external pressure following Pashinyan’s meeting with Erdogan in Istanbul. According to Shahzadeyan, Turkish and Azerbaijani demands may include the Zangezur Corridor, withdrawal of Russian forces from Armenia, and extraditions to Azerbaijan.

🟠 The analyst warns that Pashinyan may try to retain power by force before the 2026 elections. Possible tactics include weaponizing national values to test protest potential, suppressing rallies, provoking border tensions to justify emergency rule, and relying on proxy parties. The arrests of clerics and opposition figures, he says, might be just the beginning.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ πŸ“‰ US BUCKLES under high-intensity war, but DRAINS resources anyway

πŸ—£ The US suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine represents a limit of material means, not political will, former Marine Brian Berletic tells Sputnik.

πŸ”Ά US military might hits a wall

πŸ’¬ "The ongoing war in Ukraine has exposed serious limits to US military power both in terms of the actual capabilities of its weapons versus their Russian counterparts, as well as in terms of military industrial production."

πŸ”Ά Huge spending – anemic performance

The US’ massive military budget – far larger than Russia's – doesn't mean a real lead in production or performance, according to the pundit.

Bloated costs stem from a for-profit defense model. US arms industry simply can't scale like Russia’s.

πŸ”Ά US can't sustain high-intensity conflict

πŸ’¬ "It should be pointed out that critical shortages of these munitions began almost as soon as the US began transferring them to Ukraine in the first place with US production rates of all of these systems geared toward low-intensity interventions around the globe, not large-scale, protracted combat as seen in Ukraine from 2022 onward," Berletic emphasizes.

πŸ”Ά Gaza, Iran & Yemen further drained US stocks

Shortages started under Biden – and war with Iran and its allies pushed them into crisis, according to the pundit.

The US now faces a glaring gap between military demand and what its defense industry can deliver.

πŸ”Ά Pivot to Iran and China? Not so fast

The US, eyeing conflict with Iran and China, is pressuring Europe to boost defense spending. Why? The US wants more public cash for weaponsβ€”and more buying from US firms. It’s a scramble to patch up a stretched military-industrial base.

πŸ”Ά US continues to feed the flames of war

The US still aims to bleed Russia as much as possible, warns Berletic. The US and its allies will try to prolong the war β€œregardless of how increasingly lopsided the fighting becomes against Ukraine's favor.”

πŸ—£Veteran ex-DoD analyst reveals why direct Putin-Trump dialog is vital

πŸ’¬ β€œIt’s very important that the two leaders speak directly on a weekly basis, simply because any intel brief that Trump is receiving will be very much slanted toward the Ukrainian position,” former senior DoD security policy analyst Michael Maloof told Sputnik, commenting on Thursday’s much talked-about phone call between the Russian and US leaders.

πŸ—£US β€˜weaning Ukraine off its arms’ needed to encourage talks - Michael Maloof

πŸ’¬ β€œAs long as [Zelensky is] receiving arms, whether it's from us or from others, he's going to be encouraged, and he has demonstrated that. So I think that this kind of weaning Zelensky from that dependency on us for arms may actually force him to say, β€˜we're going to have to sit down’,” the former senior DoD security policy analyst told Sputnik, commenting on the new pause in advanced US arms aid.

Trump likely sees that Zelensky’s the one prolonging the conflict, despite the hard β€œreality” that Ukraine β€œwill not be able to retrieves the territories” which are now part of Russia, according to Maloof.
