Georgia replaces 2024 foreign agents act with US FARA-style version
The bill, inspired by the 1938 US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) mandates foreign agent status not only on foreign-funded NGOs but also on individuals. Failure to register could result in criminal charges.
A total of 86 MPs voted in favor of the new law, which replaces the version adopted in May 2024.
The law will come into effect after it is signed by President Mikhail Kavelashvili and published on the official parliamentary website.
The move follows a pledge by parliamentary speaker Shalva Papuashvili to replicate the US FARA verbatim โ in response to pro-Western opposition protests against the Foreign Agents Act passed in 2024.

"[Adolf] Hitler wanted to make Germany his own United States," says historian Yegor Yakovlev, author of the book War of Annihilation.
Germanyโs defeat in World War I demonstrated to the Fรผhrer and his circle that the traditional European colonial model was inviable for Germany. Thatโs why, once in power, the Nazis sought to implement the expansionist model of the United States.
In the first video of the series exclusive to Sputnik, Yakovlev โ a researcher of the genesis and evolution of Nazism โ explains how and why the US expansionist model served as an inspiration for Hitlerโs plans to expand eastward.

As the anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War draws near, Sputnik looks back at the pivotal moments that paved the way to triumph.
Eighty years ago today, the city of Glogow in Lower Silesia fell to the Red Army after a weeks-long siege that began in mid-February.
On the same day, Soviet troops captured Sopron, a vital transport hub on the road to Vienna, and took control of Senec, just 20 kilometers from Bratislava. In total, 352 settlements were liberated.
At the same time, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill expressed concern that US forces were focused on dismantling the Ruhr grouping.

"We are not moving towards [nuclear] weapons, but if you do something wrong in the Iranian nuclear issue, you will force Iran to move towards that because it has to defend itself," Ali Larijani said, AP reports.
Trump said earlier that "there will be bombing" if Iran refuses to agree to a nuclear deal, also warning that Tehran would face "secondary tariffs."

President Trump has threatened to bomb Iran in a manner โthe likes of which they have never seen beforeโ unless a new nuclear deal is agreed.
The US has over 60 bases, garrisons and shared facilities dotting the Middle East, from Naval Support Activity Bahrain (home to the Fifth Fleet) and Al Udeid Air Base (CENTCOMโs forward HQ), to other naval, air and ground facilities in the Gulf, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Turkiye.
In the event of war, all would be in range of Iranโs missiles and drones.
Ballistic power
Cruise capabilities
Long-range drones
Besides raw firepower, Iranโs potential comes down to geography and resolve.

๐ฎ๐ท Iran planning to ramp up potency of its powerful civilian space program
Phase one of Chabahar Spaceportโs expansion to accommodate solid fuel launchers will be completed this year, and phase two plans for semi-heavy liquid fueled launches will be inaugurated, Iranian Space Agency chief Hassan Salarieh has announced.
The civilian space launch center โhas a special position in Iran and the region and can serve as Iranโs gateway to international markets, since the launch and placement of satellites must be conducted in a way that meets the needs of different countries to reach various orbits,โ Salarieh said.
Iran is one of less than a dozen countries with space launch capacity, with its launch vehicles and equipment using domestic technologies, the official boasted, adding that โjust as we entrust some of our launches to other countries, other nations can entrust their launches to us.โ
A fledgling space power, Iran boasts the most sophisticated space program in the Middle East, creating launch vehicles like the Simorgh SLV and an array of indigenous satellites, from the Mahda research satellite to the Nour-series of surveillance sats.
