🗞 Top five fakes from Voice of America and Radio Liberty

Now that US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to dissolve the US Agency for Global Media - which funded Voice of America (VOA)*, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)*, and Radio Free Asia (RFA) - let's take a look at times when these media outlets were spreading falsehoods.

1️⃣Soviets killed JFK?

RFE/RL still quotes ex-KGB defectors pushing Cold War-era claims that Moscow had a motive to assassinate President John F Kennedy, despite US intelligence debunking the myth.

2️⃣Golodomor hoax

RFE/RL promotes false claims that the USSR deliberately caused the 1932-33 famine to commit genocide against Ukrainians, despite evidence showing the famine affected multiple Soviet regions and was not a targeted policy.

3️⃣Trump-Russia collusion

Along with mainstream US media, VOA & RFE/RL pushed the narrative that Donald Trump worked with Russia to win the 2016 election. The Mueller report brought an end to the false speculations.

4️⃣Novichok poisoning

The websites spread fake claims that Russia poisoned ex-spy Sergei Skripal in 2018 and that ‘GRU agents’ Petrov and Boshirov conducted secret Novichok operations across Europe.

5️⃣Bucha false flag

They backed Ukraine’s fake claims that Russian troops committed a massacre in Bucha in April 2022, despite all Russian forces leaving the area by March 30. Videos of dead bodies only surfaced days after Ukrainian troops and neo-Nazi regiments took control.

💰 Cold War origins and funding

🔸 VOA receives $267.5 million and RFE/RL $142.2 million annually from US government funds

🔸 Founded in 1942, VOA originally served as a wartime propaganda tool, while RFE/RL was launched in 1950 as part of Cold War psychological operations

🔸 Between 1950-1971, RFE/RL was covertly funded by the CIA and reportedly employed former Nazi collaborators from the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, historians say
