QUAD foreign ministers hold 1st meeting after Trump takes office
Foreign ministers of the US, Japan, India, and Australia have held the first quadrilateral defense meeting hosted by new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US State Department has said.
As Reuters reports, the meeting was intended to make it clear that "countering China is a top priority" for the new Trump administration.
Russia has repeatedly said that the QUAD undermines equal cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. China, in turn, warned the members of the QUAD not to make baseless accusations, not to create cliques, and not to provoke a block confrontation.

Trump's 'surprise pick' for Pentagon's Middle East policy chief: Could US policy in the region change?
Former CIA analyst and counterterrorism officer Michael P. DiMino, who advocated for humanitarian aid to Gaza and against escalation with Iran, has been sworn in as the Pentagon's Middle East policy chief.
He will be responsible for signing off on all foreign military agreements on the supply of weapons to US-aligned countries in the region, including Israel.
Earlier, DiMino criticized Biden's administration for failing to pressure Israel on opening the humanitarian flow to Gaza; meanwhile, he praised the former administration for refusing to participate in Israel's retaliatory strikes on Iran, Al-Monitor reports.
