๐Ÿช–Russia's military operation

โ–ช๏ธRussian army is advancing along the entire front line, with Moscowโ€™s military driving the enemy out of the Kursk region;

โ–ช๏ธThe Russian army is moving forward, while the Ukrainian forces cannot consolidate their positions in the areas to which they are retreating:

โ–ช๏ธNearly all NATO countries are fighting Russia, the combat readiness of the Russian army is the highest in the world;

โ–ช๏ธRussia does not need a truce, but a long-lasting peace, provided with reliable security guarantees;

โ–ช๏ธPutin stated that he was involved in the decision to develop the "Oreshnik" and emphasized that the new anti-missiles in Poland will not be able to target it.

โ–ช๏ธRussiaโ€™s updated nuclear doctrine increases the responsibility of hostile non-nuclear states while ensuring Belarus' security;

โ–ช๏ธPutin described the period since 2022 as a significant test for the country, noting that he has found himself joking and laughing less since the onset of the special operation.

๐ŸŒ Broader context of Ukraine crisis

๐Ÿ”ธThe West is afraid of competition, so it imposes sanctions against Russia;

๐Ÿ”ธPutin declared his readiness to talk and meet with Trump at any time;

๐Ÿ”ธPutin, answering a question about negotiations with Ukraine, said that politics is the art of compromise, and Russia is always ready for talks;

๐Ÿ”ธRussia will talk to Zelensky if he holds elections and gains legitimacy;

๐Ÿ”ธFor the first time, Putin focused on the murder of Lt. Gen. Kirillov, labeling it a terrorist act that poses a significant threat to many lives. He asserted that the Kiev regime has repeatedly engaged in such crimes, and criticized the West for failing to condemn these acts of terrorism.

๐Ÿ”ธPutin commented on Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter, stating that the US President revealed himself to be more of a human being than a politician. "I cannot blame him for that," he added.

โ–ซ๏ธPutin does not consider the events unfolding in Syria to be a defeat for Russia: "we came there so that a terrorist enclave would not emerge there, in general, we have achieved our goals";

โ–ซ๏ธPutin has not yet met with Assad after his arrival in Moscow, but he will;

โ–ซ๏ธPutin said that, Syrian army troops and pro-Iranian units throughout Syria retreated without a fight, after which Russia evacuated 4,000 Iranian fighters from the Khmeimim airbase to Tehran;

โ–ซ๏ธPutin named Israel as the main beneficiary of the crisis in Syria. Russia condemns Israelโ€™s seizure of Syrian lands, noting that the IDF is now bringing troops there and is going to strengthen their positions. President Putin said that he does not know what ultimate goals Israel is pursuing in the Gaza Strip, but "this is only worthy of condemnation".

๐Ÿ—ฃPutin reveals what would make him truly happy

Vladimir Putin is honored to serve as president, but somethingโ€™s missing for him to be able to say that heโ€™s truly happy, the Russian leader said at his year-end press conference.

โ€œHappiness will not be complete until all our boys return from the front line. Until they reunite with their mothers and wives, until their children hug them; until our young people create families and have children; I very much want our scientists, artists and cultural figures to realize their plans. Only then, probably, could it be said that Iโ€™m happy,โ€ Putin said.

๐Ÿ—ฃ Russia โ€˜will never forgetโ€™ sacrifices made to defeat Nazism โ€“ what others do is their business: Putin

โ€œWe will never forget the sacrifice suffered by our nation and brought to the altar of victory,โ€ President Putin said at his year-end presser, commenting on Russiaโ€™s plans to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War next May.

โ€œThe fact that other countries are trying to forget it is something natural for them, for todayโ€™s leaders, because it is a line of attack against Russia. But thatโ€™s their business,โ€ Putin emphasized.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Russia's presence in Syria plays into the hand of new authorities โ€“ expert

Russian military bases could play an important role in Syria, including for delivering humanitarian aid to the country, President Vladimir Putin said during his annual Q&A session on Thursday.

Russia's presence in Syria provides an alternative to the Syrian transition government, which is a positive development, veteran war-zone correspondent Elijah J. Magnier told Sputnik.

"Russia is extending its hands and saying, 'if you have changed and you want to rule the country, I have no problem in dealing with you'," Magnier said.

"This is something that the new leaders of Syria would have to take into consideration to their advantage whenever the other countries like the West, in particular Europe and the US, refuse to collaborate with Syria or to support the reconstruction of Syria."

๐Ÿ’ฌ Israel's future depends on what government will be formed in Syria โ€“ pundit

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Israel the main beneficiary of recent events in Syria during his annual Q&A session on Thursday. The president noted that despite Tel Aviv justifying its seizure of Syrian territory as a security measure, Russia condemns its actions.

"The collapse of the Assad familyโ€™s rule in Syria... has completely disrupted the so-called Shia Crescent and weakened the Axis of Resistance," former Italian diplomat Dr. Marco Carnelos told Sputnik.

The logistical route from Tehran to Beirut to support Hezbollah has been cut off, which helps Israel, the pundit stressed, adding that Iran appears to be weakened too.

"For the time being, all is going well for Israel, [it is] difficult to say if such ideal situation will last forever," Carnelos said. "It will very much depend on which kind of government will emerge in Syria in the next months."

๐Ÿ’ฌ Israel key winner from Syrian crisis, as Putin rightly noted, says Turkish analyst

โ€œWe may say that by looking at the current dynamics in Syria, Israel seems to be one of the key winners on the ground,โ€ Dr. Hasan Selim Ozertem, Ankara-based security and political analyst, told Sputnik.

His assessment echoed the one given by Russian President Vladimir Putin at his annual Q&A session.

Three factors contributed to Israelโ€™s expansion of its territorial control in the region:

โ–ช๏ธFirstly, once Syriaโ€™s Bashar Assad left the country, Israel โ€œacted swiftly and got control of Mount Hermon,โ€ a strategic location in the Levant, said the pundit.

โ–ช๏ธSecondly, Israel โ€œmanaged to successfully destroy the military capacity of Syria in the aftermath of almost 400 to 500 airstrikes,โ€ he noted.

โ–ช๏ธโ€œAnd probably the most important thing is that Iran had to withdraw from Syria in the aftermath of the regime change,โ€ said the analyst.

๐Ÿ—ฃKiev regime has no scruples about plotting sabotage attacks in Europe โ€“ Putin

Despite being unable to maintain its economy and wage military actions without the West's help, Ukraine has no scruples about cutting off gas supplies to Westerners and even plotting terrorist attacks in Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Not long ago our special services reported to me that saboteurs were detained in Slovakia, having maps with energy facilities and installations marked on them," Putin noted.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Zelensky would have hard time staying in power while negotiating peace with Russia: analyst

โ€œThe fact that Zelensky has officially stated that the โ€˜Donbass and Crimea cannot be reconqueredโ€™ is a precise indication that Trumpโ€™s message of โ€˜you must negotiate achievable resultsโ€™ passed through to Ukraine,โ€ veteran international politics observer Paolo Raffone told Sputnik, commenting on President Putinโ€™s reiteration at his year-end presser Thursday that Russia is ready for talks with a legitimate Ukrainian leadership.

โ€œIn this framework, Putinโ€™s openness to negotiate without preconditions signals that the dialogue is ongoing,โ€ Raffone, director of the Brussels-based CIPI Foundation geopolitical affairs think tank, explained.

At the same time, โ€œit will be difficult for Zelensky to remain in power while negotiating under such circumstances,โ€ the observer stressed, perhaps alluding to the immense sway of Ukraineโ€™s ultra-right radicals on issues of war and peace.

After rejecting a congressional funding deal to avoid a shutdown, Trump said Congress should get rid of the debt ceiling altogether, calling it the "smartest thing it [Congress] could do," NBC reports.

"It doesn't mean anything except psychologically," he said.

The US debt ceiling has increased sixfold over the past 25 years and now stands at $31.4 trillion.

US prefers separate arms control talks with Russia and China - official

The Biden administration prefers a bilateral dialogue with Russia on strategic stability to multilateral talks on the issue involving China, US Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer said.

"These are very different countries, very different contexts, very different capabilities, and I think very different doctrines within those countries. So, our sense is that it is better, more likely to be constructive, and ultimately successful to pursue those conversations bilaterally," he said.

๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ Szijjarto: Zelensky launched an 'ugly campaign' against Hungary

Ukraine has launched an ugly campaign against Hungary in response to the Christmas ceasefire proposal, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said.

"It is easy to see that [Zelensky] has launched an ugly campaign against us in recent days, constantly provoking us in the international arena. I think we should not give in to this provocation," Szijjarto said.

He also added that ultimately it is up to the Ukrainian people to judge Zelensky's refusal to accept a ceasefire proposal.

โ€œHungary did what it could do as a neighboring Christian country: it created an opportunity for a ceasefire," he said, adding, "the Ukrainian people will judge ... what [Zelensky] told about it,โ€ the minister said.
