Zelenskyโs new โplanโ possible โfirst stepโ to negotiations - analyst
Illegitimate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he was creating a new plan on Friday during a press conference in Kiev. International relations and security expert Mark Sleboda told Sputnikโs Final Countdown that while Zelenskyโs comments are still based in the fantasy land that he can dictate terms to Russia while losing the war, the change in tone could represent the regimeโs first tentative steps towards admitting reality.
Zelensky made the comments not long after his so-called โpeace summitโ fell flat on its face, with China declining to attend and several influential countries outside of the West refusing to sign the final document, including Brazil, South Africa, India and Saudi Arabia. Iraq and Jordan asked for their signatures to be removed the day after they signed.
But the change is also driven by the facts on the battlefield.
However, Sleboda speculates that Moscow will ultimately have to negotiate with Washington, not Kiev, noting that wonโt happen while US President Joe Biden is in office.

Iraq and Jordan asked for their signatures to be removed the day after they signed.
โCertainly, I think [Zelenskyโs] statement is representative of coming out of the failed Kiev regime war rally. Sentiment within the rest of the world outside of the West, i.e. the real international community - the global majority, that [said] they want real peace negotiations, and, perhaps, at least this is a nod in that direction,โ Sleboda speculated.
But the change is also driven by the facts on the battlefield.
โEven if [Zelenskyโs comments] are a symbolic step in that direction [of negotiations], it is driven by the desperate state on the battlefield that the Kiev regime is facing,โ Sleboda argued.
โOnce again, [Ukraine] stripped veteran troops from Toretsk in Nyu-York, they moved them to Kharkov. Russia knew about it immediately, of course, and launched a significant offensive in the area and has made significant progress. Now, the Kiev regime is scrambling and shuffling troops around again and again.โ
However, Sleboda speculates that Moscow will ultimately have to negotiate with Washington, not Kiev, noting that wonโt happen while US President Joe Biden is in office.

The French people tried Macron, now they want him gone
The French people tried life under President Emmanuel Macron and have decided they want him gone and that has become obvious to anyone who has paid attention to the past two elections in France.
Over the weekend, France held snap parliamentary elections in response to his party being walloped by the National Rally party headed by Marine Le Pen in the European Union elections in early June. His party finished in third, behind the National Rally and a coalition of leftwing parties called the New Popular Front (Nouveau Front Populaire).
โ[Macron] said it himself, he came out and said, โI know you didnโt vote for me, but because you didnโt want Le Pen - the far right - then you accepted me as your president for the next term - I heard you,โโ recounted veteran journalist Elijah Magnier on Sputnikโs Fault Lines. โWell, actually, he didnโt hear anything.โ
After the first round of voting, the National Rally received a third of the vote. The New Popular Front received 28% and Macronโs Ensemble alliance came in a distant third with 20%.
The second round of elections will be held on July 7.

โIf [the populist parties] are good or bad, they say weโll give it a try [because] theyโve tried Macron twiceโฆ and they really donโt want him anymore. He failed in Africa. He failed in the Middle East. He failed in Europe. He dismantled the power of France. He failed domestically.โ

Netanyahu walks back opposition to dialogue on post-war Gaza fate with Palestinian Authority, Israeli media claims
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahuโs office in recent weeks has privately been walking back its opposition to allowing Palestinian Authority politicians to participate in the administration of Gaza after the war, three officials familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel.
Publicly, Netanyahu continues to reject the idea of PA rule over the Gaza Strip. According to an interview with Israeli TV last week, he vowed that he would not allow a Palestinian state to be established on the coastal territory, while stating heโs โnot prepared to give [Gaza] to the PA.โ
Instead, Netanyahu told the right-wing network that he would like to establish a civil administration โ if possible with local Palestinians and hopefully with the support of countries in the region.

Why has Australian PM declined to attend upcoming NATO summit?
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has decided not to travel to Washington to attend the NATO summit scheduled for July 9-11, and Defense Minister Richard Marles will make the trip instead, Australian media reported.
An Australian government source told the Sydney Morning Herald that the decision was made after Albanese failed to confirm a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden ahead of the summit. As a result, Albanese's office advised the prime minister not to travel to the summit as it could invite further criticism, the source said.
Albanese had been expected to meet his counterparts from Japan, South Korea and New Zealand as members of the so-called Indo-Pacific Quartet at the summit, which marks NATO's 75th anniversary.
Australia is a NATO partner. The invitation to attend this year's summit was sent by the alliance's outgoing secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg.
Albanese's presence at two previous summits, in Madrid in 2022 and Vilnius in 2023, drew sharp criticism from Beijing, as well as from former Prime Minister Paul Keating and former foreign minister Bob Carr. They argued that the US and European countries should not interfere in the affairs of Indo-Pacific countries.
