While the US and NATO allies have pledged to train Ukrainian pilots for F-16 operation, doubts persist about Ukraine's capacity to produce an adequate number of skilled fighter pilots.

Russian test pilot Magomed Tolboyev emphasized the extensive training required to become a proficient pilot, contrasting it with Ukraine's plan to train pilots in just six months. He pointed out that Ukraine has only one military flight school, which may be insufficient to meet the demand for an effective air force.

Tolboyev and Maj. Gen. Vladimir Popov, a veteran Russian combat aircraft pilot, both expressed doubts about the number of combat-ready pilots in Ukraine and suggested that foreign pilots might be brought in to assist with training and even combat missions, effectively acting as mercenaries.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 According to the US government’s own Congressional Research Service, US armed forces have been active throughout the world in one form or another for the vast majority of the country’s young existence. Now, a new report documents the lessons the country is learning for its next war as Russian troops battle on in the Donbas.

The article, published in an online journal of defense news, describes the challenges faced by troops in an era of pervasive technology.

“Our communications are very specific, they're easily detected and therefore easily targeted,” said Brigadier General David Gardner of the US Army’s Joint Readiness Training Center, which trains Army troops through simulated warfare. “They're very complex to establish, to maintain.”

The report stresses that “concealment” is a major concern, documenting the use of drone units in the Ukraine operation along with surveillance by satellites and other means.

🇺🇸 Scott Hall, one of the co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald Trump, has entered a guilty plea during a hearing in Fulton County Superior Court.

Hall faces seven charges alleging he was part of a conspiracy, along with former President Trump, to overturn President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election in Georgia. Scott is specifically accused of tampering with electronic voting machines in Coffee County.

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee on Friday imposed 12-month probation for each count against him, effectively resulting in a five-year probation term, along with a $1,000 fine for each count, totaling $5,000.

🇧🇷 The Brazilian Federal Police detained retired army general Ridauto Lucio Fernandes for questioning on suspicion of organizing the January 8 takeover attempt, with his house being searched, Brazilian media reported on Friday.

According to investigators, Lucio Fernandes was the perpetrator and, possibly, one of the organizers of the January 8 takeover attempt, G1 said. The court has already ordered the freezing of his assets, according to the report.

Investigators believe Lucio Fernandes was involved with a group that instigated protesters to occupy the National Congress Palace and gave them access inside it, Brazilian broadcaster Globo said.

Kennedy plans to announce his bid as an independent on October 9 during an event in Pennsylvania, the report said. Kennedy’s campaign will launch ads targeting the Democratic National Committee ahead of the announcement, the report said.

Zakharova accused the United States and its allies of using international mechanisms "to achieve their opportunistic political goals, which are in no way related to the statutory purposes of such mechanisms."

"The above resolution is non-binding, and Russia is not going to act on its provisions, while citing the resolution in documents will make them politically and legally void to us," Zakharova added.

Germany-Ukraine joint arms production venture is ‘money laundering scheme’ – analyst

Berlin and Kiev’s plans for a joint venture on Ukrainian soil is unlikely to be implemented in the foreseeable future, Alexei Leonkov, a military analyst and editor of the Arsenal Otechestva (Arsenal of the Fatherland) magazine, told Sputnik.

German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall has received the go-ahead from the country’s Federal Antimonopoly Office to set up a joint venture with the Ukrainian Defense Industry, previously known as Ukroboronprom.

Leonkov says that Kiev and Berlin are currently writing up an agreement of intent, which is presented as if the decision on the joint venture has already been made.

Actually, however, there are several factors that make these plans by Berlin and Kiev doubtful, the Russian analyst pointed out.

🛢 The G7 price cap on Russian oil has not been working as well as the West intended with Moscow’s ability to create shadow services for its oil shipments and after the rally in crude prices that brought a barrel near $100, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told reporters.

"It does point to some reduction in the effectiveness of the price cap," Yellen told reporters in what appeared to be her first public comment acknowledging the West’s shortfall on the matter, Yellen said as quoted by Bloomberg on Friday.

She pledged to find new ways to make the oil price cap work, saying "we are more than prepared to take action", without specifying what that might be.
