Despite the aggressive monetary policy of the European Central Bank aimed at curbing inflation, the consumer price inflation rate in the Euro area was at 5.3% in July 2023, revealed the ECB. In fact, inflation has remained above the ECB’s target of 2% for around 26 consecutive months. In none of the Eurozone’s 20 member countries has it reached that level yet
The largest contributor, yet again, has been food inflation, rising 9.8% from a year earlier on average. Energy costs soared 3.2% in August from the previous month.

Wild boar in Central Europe contain unsafe levels of radioactive cesium, which posed a threat to public health, according to a new study published in the American Chemical Society's Environmental Science and Technology journal.
Mid-20th century weapons testing and along with the Chernobyl accident played a major role in the contamination, the study claims. The wild boars’ diet, which includes consumption of underground truffles, also enhances the persistent radioactivity.

🇷🇺 Russia’s Sarmat strategic missile system was put on combat duty, Yuriy Borisov, the head of the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos, stated
The RS-28 Sarmat is Russia’s next-generation silo-based, three-stage, liquid-fueled, multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV)-equipped ICBM. The missile has an operational range of up to 18,000 km, enough to target almost any spot on Earth, and can reportedly be equipped with 10–15 warheads, up to two dozen Avangard hypersonic glide vehicles, or a combination of warheads and countermeasures, including dummy warheads to distract and fool enemy missile defenses.

🪖 Ukraine shells Donetsk 90 times amid start of academic year in Russia
The city has been under constant fire since early morning, with at least four people injured in the Kievsky district, a Sputnik correspondent has reported.
Ukrainian forces shelled the city of Donetsk at least 90 times, mostly using NATO-supplied 155 mm artillery rounds, as well as MLRS rockets (conventional and incendiary), and three cluster bombs.
One of the shells hit the Donetsk City shopping mall, killing a six-year-old girl and injuring more than 10 people.
