๐ŸŒณ Deforestation in Brazilian Amazon hits tragic record in 2022

Satellite images taken between January and June show 4,000 square kilometers (1,500 square miles) of forest destroyed, more than in any six month period in the seven years of record-keeping under the current methodology. The extent is four times the size of New York City.

The area destroyed in the first half of 2022 is 80% larger than the same period in 2018. ๐Ÿ’Š Over-the-counter birth control? Drugmaker seeks FDA approval

For the first time, a pharmaceutical company has asked for permission to sell a birth control pill over the counter in the US.

HRA Pharmaโ€™s application on Monday sets up a high-stakes decision for health regulators amid legal and political battles over womenโ€™s reproductive health.

Hormone-based pills have long been the most common form of birth control in the US, used by millions of women since the 1960s. They have always required a prescription, generally so health professionals can screen for conditions that raise the risk of rare, but dangerous, blood clots.

Birth control pills are available without a prescription across much of South America, Asia and Africa. Last year, Paris-based HRA won UK approval for the first birth control pill available there without a prescription.

โ€ผ๏ธHIMARS Not Difficult Target for Air Defense But Kiev Using Terrorist Tactics - Source

HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) rockets supplied to Ukraine by the United States are not a difficult target for Russian air defense, but Kiev is using terrorist tactics of combined strikes on poorly protected civilian targets, a source told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"MLRS [Multiple Launch Rocket Systems] shells, whether they are [launched from] Uragan, Smerch, Vilkha or HIMARS systems, are not a difficult target for a layered air defense system, they are shot down by Russian air defense missile systems in large numbers, as they have a predictable trajectory, low flight speed in the final section and are not equipped with means of overcoming air defense," the source said.

At the same time, the source noted that Ukraine is using the tactics of massive combined attacks, choosing objects that are poorly covered by air defense. Such strikes involve several types of weapons, which mainly target civilian facilities, the source added.

"A high concentration of weapons creates the possibility of some missiles breaking through to the target. This is terrorism in its purest form," the source said.
