🇮🇱🇵🇸 The US has asked Israel to avoid any actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem that could create tensions ahead of President Joe Biden's upcoming visit.

US Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf held intensive discussions with Israelis and Palestinians over the matter this week, Axios said citing officials from both countries.

Leaf asked her Israeli counterparts to halt actions like home demolitions, evictions of Palestinians and building of settlements in the West Bank, the report said. The Israeli officials allegedly promised to do their best, but explained that domestic issues may create "barriers," the report added

🔎The Department of Homeland Security is preparing to discipline "multiple" horseback Border Patrol agents involved in the infamous "whipping" incident of Haitian migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border back in September.

A federal source told Fox News that in the coming days, DHS would offer proposals to discipline the agents, who then have the chance to defend themselves. The charges will be “administrative violations” and not criminal, which the agents were cleared of earlier this year.

“It was horrible what you see, what you saw — to see people treated like they did, with horses nearly running them over and people being strapped. It’s outrageous. I promise you, those people will pay,” Biden said days afterward.

🔎A pregnant 23-year-old woman was arrested for rape after police said she had sex with a 13-year-old boy numerous times during the course of a year.

According to court documents, Tyronea Powell moved in with the teenager and his family in Oklahoma about two years ago. Police said the homeowner told authorities she was a family friend who was "down on her luck and didn't have a play to stay."

Police said they interviewed the teenager that day and added he initially denied any sexual activity. A few weeks later, police said the teenager's mother told them he had an emotional breakdown and admitted to the sexual encounters.

🔴Republican Mayra Flores prevailed Tuesday in a special election for an open congressional seat in South Texas, marking a significant breakthrough for Republicans eager to blaze new inroads in the historically blue region.

She beat Dan Sanchez, the leading Democrat, outright in the closely watched race and will be the first Mexican-born congresswoman. She will get to serve only until January, but Republicans heralded her win as a shot of momentum in their new South Texas offensive.

With all precincts reporting Tuesday night, Flores had 50.98% of the vote, and Sanchez had 43.33%. Two other lesser-known candidates, Democrat Rene Coronado and Republican Juana “Janie” Cantu-Cabrera, were in the race.

🏀🔎Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner's Russian detention will be extended. Prosecutors in Russia were granted another extension Tuesday in her case. The extension is a procedural move that was expected and should have little effect on negotiations for her release, according to several experts.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported that Griner's next hearing would be July 2, but U.S. officials have said they do not consider the legal proceedings to be more than an effort to give a legitimate sheen to a negotiation tactic.

Griner has been held in Russia since Feb. 17 on accusations that she was trying to bring vape cartridges with hashish oil into the country. The U.S. Department of State declared in May that officials consider her to be wrongfully detained.

Although the virus is now evident in other parts of the world, monkeypox has become synonymous with African countries, which is why a new name is being considered for the condition.

The World Health Organization has said it is looking to rename the virus due to the connotations and assumptions that it is an “African disease.” It comes after a group of scientists signed a paper stating an “urgent need for a non-discriminatory and non-stigmatizing” moniker used to identify the virus.
