๐ฅ Tulsa gunman targeted surgeon he blamed for pain
A man who blamed his surgeon for continuing pain after a recent back operation bought an AR-style rifle and opened fire hours later at a Tulsa medical office, killing the doctor and three other people in an attack that ended with him taking his own life, police said Thursday.
The gunman called the clinic repeatedly complaining of pain and specifically targeted and killed Dr. Preston Phillips, the doctor who performed the surgery. Dr. Stephanie Husen, receptionist Amanda Glenn and patient William Love were also killed, police said.
Phillips was an orthopedic surgeon with an interest in spinal surgery and joint reconstruction, according to a profile on the clinicโs website. The chief identified the shooter as Michael Louis, 45, of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

๐ญ Colorado coal pile slide buries 2 workers
Two workers at a southern Colorado coal-fired electricity generating plant were buried Thursday when a slide happened on an 80-foot-high (24-meter-high) coal pile and rescuers were trying to find them, officials said.
Witnesses reported that the accident happened on a feeder pile for the stationโs coal-fired power plant, which is Coloradoโs largest and is operated by Xcel Energy. Xcel spokeswoman Lacey Nygard said the workers are employed by Savage, a Salt Lake City-based firm contracted by Xcel to operate and maintain the coal yard at Comanche and at other Xcel coal plants. Xcel is working with Savage and the Pueblo County Sheriffโs Department to determine the cause of the accident, Nygard said.

๐ Netflix is finally taking a page from the rest of Hollywood
In Q1 of 2022, it finally happened: Netflix had a bad quarter. It lost over 200,000 subscribers and acknowledged that newer competitors like Disney Plus and HBO Max were effectively putting an end to how the company had been doing business for nearly a decade.
Netflix, with its then near-endless source of cash and no need to please distributors or theaters, could afford to produce more varied content to try and secure peopleโs subscriptions every month. Netflix was supposed to transform Hollywood. Instead, itโs turning to the same practices that made its competitors, only without the lucrative franchises, fandoms, and huge back catalogs those same competitors enjoy.
CEO Ted Sarandos noted in Netflixโs last earnings call that it would focus on โbig event films,โ and the company has spent the last couple of months ruthlessly wiping out large parts of departments like animation (more expensive to produce with lower returns).

๐ The first US Super Nintendo World is set to open in โearlyโ 2023
Universal Studios Hollywood and Nintendo are slowly cranking up the volume about the first Super Nintendo World theme park located in the US. Now, theyโre narrowing its opening window to โearlyโ 2023 while posting a video trailer of its signature ride Mario Kart.
The augmented reality on rails ride is already a highlight of the experience at Super Nintendo World in Japan, which we visited early last year, offering an interactive experience where riders in four-seat Mario Kart vehicles can steer to collect coins and also throw shells to defeat Team Bowser, which also allows for different outcomes to the ride.
Riders wear plastic Mario hats with HoloLens-like wired visors on the front, which combine with the movement of the ride, projection mapping on the walls, and actual physical set pieces to deliver action that makes it feel like the karts are going faster than they really are.

๐ Apple attempts to appease union efforts with scheduling improvements
Apple will make a number of changes to scheduling rules for its retail employees that the company believes will result in more flexible working hours. The changes will include changes to limits on the number of late shifts worked, consecutive days worked and the minimum amount of time that must pass before an employee is eligible to work a new shift.
The company expanded benefits earlier this year, increasing the number of paid sick days and offering paid parental leave. It also set a new floor of $22 per hour for its retail employees last week. Still, Fruit Stand Workers United โ the group in the midst of organizing Appleโs Grand Central Store โ is pushing for a $30 minimum wage, tuition reimbursement and more options for retirement plans.
