🚨 Teen killed after fight at Alexandria Bradlee Shopping Center

Police are investigating after an 18-year-old Alexandria City High School student was killed during an off-campus fight at the Bradlee Shopping Center. 

Police received a call around 12:26 p.m. to respond to what they called a "large group fight." According to police, the unidentified student was critically injured after being stabbed during a fight that involved 30 to 50 people. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

🤱 US births rose last year but still less than before pandemic

US births bumped up last year, but the number of babies born was still lower than before the COVID-19 pandemic. The 1% increase was a bit of a rebound from 2020, the first year of the pandemic, which witnessed the largest one-year drop in the US births in nearly 50 years.

But there were still about 86,000 fewer births last year than in 2019, according to a government report released Tuesday. The US was once among only a few developed countries with a fertility rate that ensured each generation had enough children to replace itself — about 2.1 kids per woman. But it’s been sliding, and in 2020 dropped to about 1.6, the lowest rate on record. It rose slightly last year, to nearly 1.7.

📦 Walmart is expanding its drone deliveries to reach 4 million households

Walmart announced on Tuesday that it’s planning on expanding the number of stores that offer drone-delivered packages; by the end of the year, it hopes to fly deliveries from 34 sites across Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. 

Walmart says that customers who live near drone-capable stores will be able to order items weighing less than 10 pounds in total between 8AM and 8PM. The deliveries, which cost $3.99, are done via a drone operated by a company called DroneUp, which has a partnership with Walmart. Workers at the Walmart location receive the order, pack it into a box, and then secure the box to a drone.
