The squeeze is already reshaping oil flows: Saudi Aramco is weighing a new pricing mechanism for crude sold to Asia after diverting cargoes from Yanbu to Egypt’s Ain Sukhna and through the Suez-Mediterranean pipeline, a far longer route via the Med, Gibraltar and the Cape. Aramco declined to comment.
It’s the second forced rerouting this year: Hormuz pushed Saudi exports from Ras Tanura to the Red Sea, and the Houthis are now pushing them out of the Red Sea too. Saudi sells two-thirds of its oil to Asia.
