We asked Which? members to tell us about issues they had had with their smart meters in the last 12 months. Overall, 23% of those with smart meters told us they’d had one or more problems with them in the last year.
Of those who reported a problem, 41% said their energy company wasn't automatically receiving readings.

There are a number of different conformity assessment options available for MID approval and manufacturers are free to choose between these.
For both gas and electricity meters the options are:
• B+D (i.e. type examination and quality assurance of the production process)
• B+F (i.e. type examination and product verification)
• H1 (i.e. full quality assurance plus design examination)

Ofgem Regs:
SLC 39A of the Electricity Supply Licence and 33A of the Gas Supply Licence require suppliers to install a specific number of smart meters each year from 2022 to 2025, under the Targets Framework.
SLC 49 of the Electricity Supply Licence and 43 of the Gas Supply Licence mandate that suppliers take all reasonable steps to ensure smart meters already installed operate in smart mode.
