Air defense units of the Ukrainian armed forces had to shoot down a Ukrainian drone above the capital Kiev late on Thursday, the Command of the Ukrainian Air Force said on social networks.

"At around 8:00 p.m. [Moscow time] on May 4, control was lost over a Bayraktar-TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle performing a scheduled flight in the Kiev Region," the Air Force Command said in a statement on its Facebook page (Facebook is prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist).

"The drone’s uncontrollable flight in the capital’s airspace could have led to undesirable consequences, so a decision was made to refer the matter to mobile groups." "Target destroyed!" the statement says.

No casualties were reported as a result of the air defense engagement and subsequent fall of debris.

An air raid warning was issued in Kiev earlier on Thursday.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández arrived at Brazil’s presidential residence to meet his counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as officials from both countries study how to eschew the dollar in trade between the neighboring nations.

Argentina struck a deal with China that allows its companies to pay for Chinese imports with yuan. Lula, for his part, hailed an agreement between Brazil and China to use the yuan in their bilateral commerce while in Shanghai last month, while also taking swipes at the dominance of the dollar in international trade and at the IMF.

In addition to economic issues, Fernández and Lula are also likely to discuss the possibility of restarting the Union of South American Nations as part of a broader agenda of South American integration.

American F-16 fighters will not withstand Russian air defense strikes, said the US Air Force, former F-16 pilot John Venable.

These fighters have no stealth capability and are inferior to the latest air defense systems, including the Russian S-400, in high-risk conditions. That is why, as Venable warned, these planes have nothing to do in the sky over Ukraine.

The veteran also noted that Russia's systems would easily outwit the F-16's guidance systems and then destroy the ships. Thus, American fighters have no chance of success in Ukraine.

"Fourth-generation fighters have nothing to do on the modern battlefield," Business Insider quoted the ex-pilot as saying.
