A court in Berlin rejected former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's attempt to restore his parliamentary privileges, which he was deprived of last May after he refused to distance himself from Putin,in connection with the SMO. Schroeder had previously announced that he would sue the Bundestag to restore his privileges, but the Berlin Administrative Court ruled against him.The court's ruling read:"The plaintiff is not entitled to an office with clerical staff either by common law or by equal treatment."Schroeder's lawyer argued that the decision to close his office was illegal. Nevertheless, he was found incapable of performing any lasting official duties in Germany, and therefore ineligible to hold office.Schröder was accused of making unwanted comments during the Ukraine crisis and of continuing to cooperate with Russian state-owned energy companies. Air defense units of the Ukrainian armed forces had to shoot down a Ukrainian drone above the capital Kiev late on Thursday, the Command of the Ukrainian Air Force said on social networks.

"At around 8:00 p.m. [Moscow time] on May 4, control was lost over a Bayraktar-TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle performing a scheduled flight in the Kiev Region," the Air Force Command said in a statement on its Facebook page (Facebook is prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist).

"The drone’s uncontrollable flight in the capital’s airspace could have led to undesirable consequences, so a decision was made to refer the matter to mobile groups." "Target destroyed!" the statement says.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández arrived at Brazil’s presidential residence to meet his counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as officials from both countries study how to eschew the dollar in trade between the neighboring nations.

Lula intends to propose a line of credit to finance Brazilian companies that export to Argentina with the intention of avoiding use of the dollar, said the finance ministry’s executive secretary, Gabriel Galípolo.

Argentina struck a deal with China that allows its companies to pay for Chinese imports with yuan. Lula, for his part, hailed an agreement between Brazil and China to use the yuan in their bilateral commerce while in Shanghai last month, while also taking swipes at the dominance of the dollar in international trade and at the IMF.

In addition to economic issues, Fernández and Lula are also likely to discuss the possibility of restarting the Union of South American Nations as part of a broader agenda of South American integration.
