🎞🇷🇺🇺🇦 Bakhmut: a new phase in the battle for Donbass

One of the most popular questions during the special military operation boils down to the banal "Why aren't our troops advancing on settlement N, since from there it's a direct road to victory?"

In both Popasna and Bakhmut, such a question has been raised more than once. And instead of a thousand explanations, we decided to make a video which demonstrates what is happening.

Today, AFU are trying with all their might to hold back the Russian offensive. Reinforcements are being constantly sent near Bakhmut, while artillery and tactical aviation of the enemy are attacking the advancing units.

Wagner's PMC assault units are breaking through the defensive lines to the east of Bakhmut. It is likely that they will be tasked with the capture of the vital population centre.

Bakhmut itself is difficult to defend effectively because of its geographical location. The city is located in a lowland area along the riverbed. But there will definitely be no easy assault.

⚠️ On June 30, 2022, in Slavyansk, Donetsk People's Republic, AFU units launched an artillery attack from the local compound feed plant at residential quarters in order to accuse Russia of eliminating the civilian population of Ukraine.

◽️ The attack has resulted in the death of 1 woman and injuring about 10 persons.

◽️ Just in some minutes after the shelling, reporters from Ukrainian mass media commenced their work at the incident location, started taking photo- and videographic data about the consequences of allegedly indiscriminate attacks launched by Russian Armed Forces at civilian population.

◽️ This kind of rapid arrival of Ukrainian journalists who supposedly happened to be around that way indicates a pre-staged scenario of this cynical provocation.

❗️ We emphasise again that the Russian Federation Armed Forces do not launch attacks at civilian infrastructure facilities and treat civilians with an exclusive humanity during the special military operation, unlike the Ukrainian side.

Lysychansk had fallen: virtually all the AFU units holding the defenses in the city had withdrawn through the western suburbs of Berezovo and Lysychansk through the shelled fields towards Belogorovka and Seversk.

▪️There is now photo and video evidence of the allied forces' physical control of the regional administration and the vicinity of the Shakhtyor stadium.

▪️Filtering activities are taking place in the city; the northern half of the settlement can be considered conditionally safe: reports are quietly recorded and interviews are taken with local residents.

▪️The territory from the RTI factory and Bila Gora is still in the "gray zone": at the moment there is no obvious evidence of physical control over the southern and central districts of Lysychansk.

🔻 Judging by the fact that the AFU was able to leave the city quietly, the physical cauldron was not formed today. We have to take the heights and quarries near Belogorovka, finish clearing the industrial zone and get ready for the next breakthrough.

The front in the area of Ugledar actually stopped in March, so one may get the impression that there are no clashes there. This is not the case: the situation in the area is simply poorly covered by the media due to serious problems with communications in the region.

There are constant artillery duels along the line of contact, and the Ukrainian armed forces are even attempting an offensive. One occurred late last month.

Background .

Since spring, the Ukrainian Armed Forces periodically attempted to attack the positions of the Russian Armed Forces and the DNR on the line Pavlovka - Nikolskoye - Vladimirovka. The Ukrainian army had no significant successes: even with numerical superiority, it managed to capture only a few villages, such as Novomayorske village southwest of Ugledar.

Settlements along the line of contact became an area of humanitarian disaster (https://t.iss.one/vladlentatarsky/14302), and some residents were unable to evacuate in an organized manner due to constant shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces.

The course of fighting

▪️ By the end of June, the Ukrainian command was able to concentrate up to several incomplete battalions in a small area and go on the offensive. On the evening of June 21, the AFU attacked the RF Armed Forces' positions in Pavlovka from the north and west.

▪️The settlement was held by only one unit of the Marines, and fighting ensued. By mid-June 22, Ukrainian units had captured the village and its surroundings, and several Russian servicemen were taken prisoner. The small farmstead of Shevchenko was also under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On the same day, Ukrainian units attempted to further their success and launched an attack on Ygorovka, but encountered resistance from units of the Russian Armed Forces and the separate battalion and tactical formation (OBTF) of the DNR Interior Ministry. Heavy clashes broke out on the outskirts of the village.

The next day, on June 23, several AFU companies attempted to enter the rear of the allied forces in Yegorovka through a gully, but were promptly detected by an OBTF UAV. Artillery fire was opened on the advancing troops, and Russian Air Force helicopters arrived and accurately covered them from the air.

The Ukrainian units suffered very heavy losses and retreated to Pavlovka. According to radio intercepts, the survivors refused to go into the next attack and accused their own command of treachery and sabotage.

▪️ Since June 23, Allied forces had been counterattacking the area: they drove the AFU back from Yegorovka and established control over Shevchenko, deploying positions there. Pavlovka is still occupied by the Ukrainian army.

What's the bottom line?

🔻The offensive failed to achieve even significant tactical successes. The Ukrainian attack has been stifled, and the heavily outnumbered units of the Russian Armed Forces and DNR National Front even took back some of the positions and continue to occupy the "gray zone".

🔻 The Ukrainian command's plan also raises questions: there are no strategically important supply lines or facilities near Ugledar, access to which could seriously complicate the position of the allied forces. The capture of a single village can hardly be called even a satisfactory result given the incomparably higher losses of the AFU.

🔻 At the same time, Kiev will try again to launch an offensive at Ugledar. The AFU has no critical problems with manpower so far, so the Ukrainian command will continue to send large numbers of untrained units into battle regardless of losses, in the hope of taking advantage of the numerical superiority over the RF Armed Forces and the DNR NLM in the area.
