🎙 President Vladimir Putin met with war correspondents at the Kremlin (June 13, 2023)

Read in full

Key talking points:

🔹 We are aware that the events of the 1990s – early 2000s stem from a bitter historical legacy in the Caucasus, for instance. Who were we fighting there? Mostly, Al-Qaeda. And what did our “partners” do? They supported them by providing financial, information, political and even military support. They did not give a damn about the fact that they were helping Al-Qaeda as long as they were able to rock our boat. Everything they did fit the paradigm of rocking Russia.

🔹 We left no stone unturned in our efforts and finally agreed that NATO would not be expanded. We came up with every option we could. Still no. Why? It is just because the country is too big: no one needs a country that big and with such great potential in Europe.

🔹 Ukraine is part of the effort to destabilise Russia. By and large, this should have been kept in mind when decisions were made on breaking the Soviet Union up. But then, apparently, it was expected that our profound relations would be decisive. But due to a number of historical, economic and political circumstances the situation took a different path.

🔹 Polish mercenaries are indeed fighting there <...> and they are suffering more loss. In fact, they are trying to hide them, but their losses are serious. It is a pity that they hide this from their population too.

🔹 We, unlike Ukraine’s current authorities, cannot employ terrorist methods: we still have a state, a country, while it is a regime there.

🎙 Statement by the Head of Delegation of the Russian Federation, G20 Sous-Sherpa Marat Berdyev at the G20 Development Ministers Meeting, session 1 «Multilateralism - Collective Actions for Accelerating Progress towards SDGs»

📍 Varanasi, June 12

Key talking points:

💬 We appreciate the Indian Presidency for its tremendous efforts to move forward the issue of development with a holistic approach that provides for synergies amongst development, growth, climate and environment.

• The unwillingness of the Western countries to discuss mutual security guarantees, economic wars they had unleashed amidst attempts to shift primary responsibility for the degradation of international relations to other states, including Russia is quite worrisome. It reveals strong intention by the West to resist a multipolar world and the primacy of the UN Charter, trying to replace them with their own unilateral rules.

• We are concerned by cases of weaponization of economy by the West, in particular in areas of food and energy security through price ceilings, misuse of value chains, seizure of foreign assets, like Russian fertilizers capturing by the EU. The new wave of large-scale threats emerges from terrorist attacks/war crimes of Kiev regime and its accomplices against critical civil infrastructure.

🇷🇺 Russia supports developing countries as a donor at an amount of about 1,4 bln USD per year and serves as a major supplier of food, fertilizers and energy. We will be hosting 2nd #RussiaAfrica Summit on July 26-29 in Saint-Petersburg to foster our cooperation and look forward for the African Union membership at the #G20. Our country also endeavors to implement the Greater Eurasian Partnership underpinned by closer relationships between Eurasian Economic Union, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and #ASEAN.

👉 Check out key points on Indo-Russian partnership from 1st day of 🇷🇺#SPIEF2023:

▫️Bilateral trade turnover surged 2.5 times last year, surpassed longtime target of $30 billion; on its way to $50 billion in 2023;

▫️ More & more Indian companies are entering Russian market in pharmaceutical, IT, & infrastructure industries;

▫️ India & Russia have strong “complementarities” for greater trade & investment;

▫️ While Russia is looking for new suppliers of machinery, chemicals, & industrial components, India is looking to become a manufacturing hub & find new markets for its goods (it's a match!).

What are the challenges and how to overcome the obstacles?

▪️
Logistics: New trade routes, such as International North South Transport Corridor, help lower shipping times and costs;

▪️Financial: Russian companies are opening accounts in Indian commercial banks, and digital technologies, such as blockchain, could help ease cross-border payments;

▪️Lack of awareness: Many Indian companies are not aware about business opportunities in Russia, the same is true for Russian companies and India. This is why it is necessary to strengthen dialogue between Russian and Indian businesses.

On this day in 1783, under the leadership of Rear Admiral Mekenzi (MacKenzie), Sevastopol’s first four stone buildings were laid, including a house for the commander of the Sevastopol squadron, a chapel, a smith shop in the Admiralty and a pier, later called Grafskaya Pier.

ℹ️ However, the history of this glorious city began much earlier. It came into being in the very area where the ancient city-fortress of Chersonesos once stood. Following numerous wars between Russia and Türkiye, a new fortress was built on the site of the former Chersonesos in 1783 by a decree of Empress Catherine II. The fortress was given the name Sevastopol, which in Greek means “holy city,” “city of glory,” or “city worthy of worship.”

The great Russian commander Alexander Suvorov was at the origins of the city. His victory over the Turkish fleet on the shores of Akhtiar Bay in 1778 helped Russia in many ways to take root in Crimea. He also gave orders to build the first earthen fortifications on the shores of what is now Sevastopol Bay and to deploy Russian troops there.

☝️ In the Soviet period, despite the fallout of the Civil War, the city expanded dynamically, and its population doubled in 20 years, with as many as 112,000 people living in it by early 1941.

Among other things, this made Sevastopol a strong naval base. The 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War became a grueling test for the Black Sea Fleet sailors and ordinary Sevastopol residents. The heroic defence of Sevastopol lasted 250 days. The Soviet troops left the city after they had exhausted every defence resource. On May 9, 1944, the city which had been almost completely destroyed by the Nazis, was liberated.

🗳 The Crimean status referendum of March 16, 2014 was, without a doubt, the most important milestone in the modern history of Sevastopol. The voting results showed that 95.6 percent of the participants in the referendum in Sevastopol voted in favour of the city joining the Russian Federation.

🛡 #OTD 22 years ago, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (#SCO) was founded - a multilateral association aimed at ensuring peace, security and stability and jointly countering new security challenges and threats to member states.

Today, the SCO is made up of eight countries: its founding members – Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan – as well as India and Pakistan, which joined in 2017. Iran is also expected to become a full SCO member at the upcoming summit (July 3-4, New Delhi).

In June 2002, the organisation's member states signed the Treaty on Long-Term Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation that cemented the SCO's focus on the positive promotion of multidimensional cooperation and its non-targeting of third countries and organisations. Today the SCO continues to firmly rule out bloc, ideological and confrontational approaches to solving international and regional development problems.

🤝 One of the most important areas of SCO activity is joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and transnational organised crime. The SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure operates in Tashkent on a permanent basis to ensure effective cooperation between the competent authorities of the member states in these areas.

🌐 The SCO's legal framework for relations with the United Nations and its agencies continues to expand. Partnerships have been established with the #CIS, #CSTO, #EEC, #ASEAN and a number of other multilateral associations that share similar principles of constructive development.
