📆 #OTD, on December 2, 1971, the Soviet robotic space probe "Mars 3" became the first spacecraft to attain a soft landing on Mars.

🛰️ After its landing, it transmitted an image from the surface of the Red Planet.

🟣 This achievement was a breakthrough in the scientific and technological development of the USSR and the entire world.

🗓 #OTD, on December 21, 1896, a great Soviet military leader, marshal, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Konstantin Konstantinovich Rokossovsky, was born.

❗️ The crowning glory of Konstantin Rokossovsky's military leadership talent was the Operation Bagration during the Great Patriotic War, which inflicted one of the greatest defeats on the Nazi invaders. As a result of a two-month offensive (June-August 1944), Belarus was completely liberated, as well as part of the Baltics and the eastern regions of Poland. The German Army Group Center was practically destroyed.

➡️ In June 1945, Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky commanded the Victory Parade in Moscow, while on May 1, 1946, he was its inspector.

📍 The name of the Victory Commander was given to the Far Eastern Higher Command School, a metro station in Moscow and many streets in different cities of Russia.

🛰 #OTD, 50 years ago, on December 26, 1974, the Salyut 4 space station was launched into orbit.

📸 The operating time of the durable orbital station designed by the OKB-1 was 770 days, and the scientific and technical experiments conducted during two expeditions became the next step in space exploration. More than 5 million square kilometers of the Soviet Union's territory were photographed from its board.

🚀 The Salyut 4 station was fitted out with the state-of-the-art equipment: an X-ray telescope, spectrometers, a telephotometer, medical and biological research instruments.

👥 His philosophical research underscored the need to work for the benefit of society and the world, arguing that true liberation of the soul is achieved through helping others.

📝 In his main works, such as Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, My Teacher, Practical Vedanta, etc., Swami Vivekananda laid down ideas that remain relevant to this day both in India and around the world.

📸 On January 27, the Russian House in New Delhi hosted the opening of the exhibition "The Leningrad Blockade in the Photographs by Boris Kudoyarov" dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad.

🖼 Provided by the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, it includes photographs demonstrating the destruction of the city after Nazi bombing, the life of people in the besieged city, as well as documentary footage capturing the history of the evacuation and restoration of Leningrad.

📹 As part of the event, the guests of the Russian House were addressed by Chief Researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dr Eugenia Vanina and Secretary of the Union of Journalists of Russia Ashot Dzhazoyan who presented a documentary about modern St Petersburg "Petersburg! Life in the City...".

👩‍🎨 The exhibition also featured thematic works by young Indian artist N.K.Meena, while students studying Russian at local universities recited poems about the war.

🟣 The exhibition is open till the end of the month.

📆 #OTD, 165 years ago, on January 29, 1860, the outstanding Russian writer, publicist and playwright Anton Chekhov was born.

📚 The works of the recognized classic of the world literature have been translated into more than 100 languages, while his plays "The Seagull", "Three Sisters" and "The Cherry Orchard" have been staged by the world's leading theaters for 100 years.

📝 Anton Chekhov created more than 500 different works, including short humorous tales and feuilletons, as well as serious stories and plays, including the famous "The House with the Mezzanine", "Ward No. 6", "The Man in the Case", "Uncle Vanya", "Duel" and others.

☝️ In addition to the literary work, he attached great importance to medical and charitable activities, helped children, starving and sick people, organized fundraisers for those in need and regularly published texts in newspapers dedicated to the situation of socially vulnerable groups in Russia.

The State Historical Museum in Moscow celebrates its 153th birthday!

📆 Its founding date is considered to be February 9, 1872, when the "highest permission" was received to establish the Historical Museum named after Tsarevich Alexander Alexandrovich.

👥 The scientific commission was headed by the founder of Russian archeology Aleksey Uvarov, and included historians Ivan Zabelin, Vasily Rumyantsev and others.

🟣 The future museum was supposed to "serve as a visual history", for which it was planned to collect "all monuments of significant events in the history of the Russian state".

😍 Each hall of the museum is a work of art! Vasnetsov, Semiradsky, Aivazovsky, Safonov's artel and other famous masters were engaged in the interior design.

5️⃣ The State Historical Museum has a rich collection (about 5 million exhibits) and is one of the five largest museums in the world.

Travel to Zaraysk — an ancient city 160 km from Moscow

This small but amazing and atmospheric city was first mentioned in the chronicles of 1146 under the name Osetr, which means it is even older than Moscow!

🔹 Today Zaraysk is a cozy town with a rich history, where the main attractions are located at the city centre, which makes it an ideal place for leisurely walks. Here is also the unique Zaraysk Kremlin — the smallest military Kremlin in Russia and the only one in the Moscow Region that has been preserved in its original form.
