How many monuments to the first cosmonaut Yury Gagarin are there in the world? 🌎

👩‍🚀 There are about 50 busts and monuments to Yury Gagarin in the world. They are located in different parts of the world as a tribute to the man who first stepped into space. We will tell you about the most unusual monuments to the pilot.

➡️ The first foreign monument to Gagarin was a sculpture erected in 1975 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Initially, it stood in front of the Geyser Colonnade, but was later moved to the airport. Today, Gagarin meets and warmly welcomes guests of the city right upon arrival.

✔️ And in Lyubertsy and in London, for example, there is the same monument. The first was built near the school where the pilot studied, and the second was erected in his likeness. The opening of the monument in London was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's visit to Great Britain.

👍 Another monument is located in Houston. It is a "double" of the monument in Kaluga, built in 2011. The copy is located near the former NASA headquarters.

And that's not all, of course! Gagarin sculptures can be found in Argentina, Germany, Greece, Denmark, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Norway, Palestine, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Switzerland and even Sri Lanka.

🛰️ #OTD, on July 25, 1984, a significant milestone in the history of #space exploration occurred — 40 years ago, Svetlana Savitskaya became the first woman ever to perform a spacewalk.

🧑‍🚀 Her achievement took place as part of an expedition to visit the orbital scientific complex "Salyut 7". Her works in open space, which included testing various metalworking tools, alongside Commander of the Soviet spacecraft "Soyuz T-12" Vladimir Dzhanibekov, lasted over 3 hours.

🌏 This bold step marked a new era in space exploration, while Savitskaya was honored with the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for the second time.
🚀 #OTD 62 years ago, on August 6, 1961, German Titov made a historic flight into space on the Vostok-2 spacecraft

Flight facts:
• Duration: 25 hours 18 minutes
• Number of Earth orbits: 17
• Distance covered: 700,000 km

Titov became the youngest cosmonaut in history at just 25 years old!

🎞️ Rare footage of this flight can be seen in the "Open Space" collection on the Presidential Library portal

🇷🇺 #OTD, on September 14, 1959, 65 years ago, the Soviet automatic interplanetary station "Luna-2" reached the surface of the Moon, becoming the first man-made object to touch another celestial body.

🌓 Launched on September 12 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, "Luna-2" made a journey that ended in the Sea of Rains region near the craters Aristillus, Archimedes and Autolycus.

🟣The "Luna-2" mission was the second most important event in the history of cosmonautics after the flight of Yuri Gagarin, demonstrating the advanced achievements of the Soviet space program. Major scientific achievement is the first direct measurement of the solar wind and confirmation of the Moon's lack of a significant magnetic field and radiation belt.
