#OTD 545 years ago, on August 29, 1479, the Assumption (Dormition) Cathedral in Moscow was consecrated, a place of crucial importance for Russian identity.

The origins of the Cathedral are closely connected with the rise of Moscow Principality of Russia.

In 1326, the leading Russian church prelate, Metropolitan Peter of Vladimir, made the Moscow Kremlin his de facto residence. Currently, Great Prince Ivan Kalita launched the construction of the cathedral dedicated to the Feast of the Dormition, which symbolized the continuity with the great Dormition Cathedral in the town of Vladimir. The latter started to lose its political significance.

โœ๏ธ The present-day cathedral was constructed in 1479 by decree of Great Prince of Russia Ivan III, who consolidated all Russian principalities under the power of Moscow. A renowned architect Aristotele Fioravanti of Bologna was invited to Russia to design and to build it.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ For 6 centuries, the cathedral has been the national and religious centre of Russia. It is known as the place of coronation of Russian rulers (even after the capital was moved to St. Petersburg), including the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, as well as the investiture of leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church.

๐ŸŽ™ Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharovaโ€™s answer to a question from Rossiya Segodnya regarding peace initiatives on Ukraine

โ“ Question: Are Russiaโ€™s peace proposals on Ukraine still in force now? How would Russia see a proposal to have talks on Ukraine if they are initiated by Minsk?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Maria Zakharova: Russia has always wanted to put an end to the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible and favoured the start of negotiations. We suggested on many occasions finding solution to the current situation by political and diplomatic methods, including this past June, when President Vladimir Putin came forward with a peace initiative. It boiled down to:

โ€ข Withdrawal of Ukrainian armed units from new Russian regions, Donetsk Peopleโ€™s Republic, Lugansk Peopleโ€™s Republic, Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions,
โ€ข Kievโ€™s refusal from NATO membership,
โ€ข Cancellation of all Western sanctions against Russia,
โ€ข Ensuring the rights of Ukraineโ€™s Russian-speaking citizens.

That said, it was about putting an end to the conflict, rather than about freezing it in order to rearm the Kiev regime. No doubt the initiative put forward by the President of Russia will remain a universal and long-term recipe for resolving the Ukraine conflict because it contains a way of eliminating its root causes.

โ—๏ธ However, the recent events have shown that the Ukraine crisis is far detached from peace talks. As you know, in August, the Zelensky regime ventured a treacherous terrorist invasion of the Kursk Region. It was a kind of response from Ukrainian Banderites to Vladimir Putinโ€™s peace initiative. Kiev did not conceal that by such a risky step they intended to improve their positions in the hypothetical negotiations with Russia. It is clear that when such heinous atrocities are taking place, in particular, indiscriminate attacks against civilians who have nothing to do with hostilities, against civilian infrastructure, and when threats to nuclear power facilities are created, any peace talks with the terrorist regime in Kiev are out of the question, regardless of their initiator.

Meanwhile, we would like to emphasise that we are grateful to our Belarusian allies for the peace-making efforts they made many times, specifically, provided a negotiation platform, including in 2015, when working out a Minsk package of measures, and in the spring of 2022, when holding first rounds of the Russian-Ukrainian talks.
In a significant step towards addressing global climate challenges, #BRICS countries have recently signed two crucial documents on climate cooperation. The first is a framework for climate and sustainable development, which outlines key areas for their joint efforts.

The second document signed by BRICS nations is a Memorandum of Understanding on carbon market partnerships. This agreement emphasizes that climate change mitigation measures should be grounded in scientific data, analytics, and expertise from BRICS member countries, including ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ทBrazil, ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บRussia, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณIndia, ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณChina, ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆSouth Africa, ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆSaudi Arabia, ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌEgypt, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ทIran, ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡นEthiopia, and the ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ชUAE as new members from January 1, 2024.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ“š #OnThisDay September 1st is celebrated in Russia as Knowledge Day - a national holiday marking the beginning of the new academic year. This tradition, dating back to the 1930s, underscores the fundamental role of education in the development of society and the state.

๐Ÿ”” Traditionally, today millions of students across the country, from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad, gather for ceremonial lineups, schoolroom sessions, and knowledge lessons. The first bell of the school year rings out.

๐Ÿ–ผ Soviet-era posters, a unique art form in themselves, often capture the essence of this special day. There is a few "Back to School" masterpieces to share with you.
๐Ÿฉ On this day, 1 September 1965, a factory of surgical instruments was built in Madras with the economic, scientific and technical assistance of the USSR. Today, itโ€™s known as the Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited.
