We are continue to present extracts from the article by Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia: “The humanity should get rid of the colonial system heritage. Colonial powers’ time is up”.

Multipolar globalisation, that is replacing, at a growing rate, the complete injustice of the monocentric Western universalism, will create an absolutely new dialogue paradigm.
<...>
We hope that, through the joint efforts with our counterparts, we will create conditions for elevating cooperation within the BRICS ‒ African Union format to a qualitatively new level, building upon #BRICS growing role in peaceful settling of conflicts and ensuring compliance with international law.
<...>
We will be paying especially careful attention to a gradual transition from the conventional foreign aid schemes via government lines that rely on funds allocated by countries through the UN, the IMF and the IBRD, to a new type of international cooperation to assist development multilaterally – and, of course, with a wider involvement of private capital and funds of non-confrontational structures that the countries of the #GlobalSouth can trust, including the New Development Bank.
<...>
A polycentric world order will be pragmatic and based on diversity rather than neocolonial dogmas. Economic stability will derive from the diversification of ties and the freedom of manoeuvre in contacts between macroregions based on the philosophy of the #NonAlignedMovement. There is no doubt that this format based on the vision of outstanding statesmen Jawaharlal Nehru, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Sukarno and Josip Broz Tito in the 20th century will ultimately be given a second lease on life, even if in a slightly different form, in the 21st century. The objectives we must strive for not only include the proliferation of the principles of peaceful coexistence and the rejection of military bloc confrontation in the new post-colonial era but also the creation of a new content for the Non-Aligned Movement itself, including by establishing its inter-party dimension.

🏥 #OnThisDay August 28, marks Military Medic Day in Russia – a professional holiday for specialists dedicated to protecting the health of military personnel. The holiday continues the traditions of military medicine, established in 1805 by Emperor Alexander I when he created the first central military administration body responsible for the health of Russian army soldiers.

⚡️ Military medics have always played a key role in ensuring the combat readiness of our Armed Forces, selflessly saving soldiers' lives during combat operations and caring for their health in peacetime.

🎖 During the World War II, Russian medics returned over 17 million wounded and sick soldiers to duty. For their demonstrated heroism, 44 medical workers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union!

📹 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video message to the participants in the 6th BRICS+ Young Diplomats’ Forum (August 28, 2024)

💬 I would like to begin by offering my heartfelt greetings to the participants in the 6th Young Diplomats’ Forum which is taking place in the #BRICSplus format.

It was the Foreign Ministry’s Council of Young Diplomats that initiated the first event of this kind in Ufa as part of Russia’s 2015 chairmanship. Since then, this platform has emerged as an effective tool for promoting horizontal ties between the BRICS foreign ministries.

It is worth noting that Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, has been selected to host the 2024 meeting. It stands at the crossroads of civilisations, and people representing various religions, creeds and ethnic groups have been living here in peace and harmony for many centuries. This offers a vivid example of the way ethnic, religious and cultural diversity can serve as a foundation for promoting long-term development and sustaining mutual understanding. #BRICS countries have been relying on these very principles in their relations.

👉 The Forum’s main topic is The Role of Young Diplomats in Strengthening Multilateralism for Fairness in Global Development and Security. It covers a wide range of major issues for BRICS states, as well as for other like-minded countries. I welcome the fact that all partners share the association’s approaches to working together when responding to present-day global challenges.

BRICS attracts more and more attention, which is a clear sign that our aspirations to build a fairer global architecture in international relations are aligned with deep-running and objective geopolitical shifts. The Global Majority has been very receptive to this vision, which demonstrates that what we do together is highly relevant and important.

I am certain that your forum will contribute in its own way to strengthening the comprehensive partnership, atmosphere of friendship and trust between our countries and their people.

🌐 I wish all the participants every success, good health and fruitful work.

🗓 83 years ago, on August 28, 1941, the Tallinn breakthrough of the Baltic Fleet of the USSR to Kronstadt – one of the largest and most complicated naval ops of the Soviet Navy during the Great Patriotic war – commenced.

▪️In the summer of 1941, the Nazi invaders began to break through into the territory of the Soviet Baltic republics. Early in August, the Germans launched Tallinn offensive. By the end of the month, the Red army forces, retreating under the onslaught of the superior enemy troops, were trapped on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland and cut off from the "mainland".

Under these circumstances, the Supreme High Command Headquarters of the USSR ordered to evacuate the main forces of the Baltic Fleet, the Red army's forces defending Tallinn, and the civilian population to Kronstadt.

⚓️ On the morning of August 28, an attempt to make a major breakthrough was launched: 225 ships and vessels left Tallinn with over 10,000 people on board.

The Nazis tried by all means to prevent the breakthrough of the convoy. Intensive fire from the enemy's coastal guns was directed at the Soviet ships. In the Gulf waters, the Germans and Finns set up several lines of minefields – more than 1,700 mines. “At the time of the breakthrough, the Gulf of Finland looked like a "dumpling soup" saturated with German mines," – that's how the participants of the breakthrough described their dire circumstances.

By August 30, the Baltic Fleet finally broke through to Kronstadt. Only 163 ships reached the destination. Over 15,000 people died during the operation, including more than 4,500 civilians.

☝️ Under such harsh conditions, the losses could have been much higher if not for the unprecedented heroism, bravery and mutual assistance of the Baltic Fleet crews who saved their comrades and selflessly returned fire from anti-aircraft guns and rifles.

The Baltic Fleet immediately joined the defence of Leningrad. The Soviet forces delivered by the fleet joined the ranks of the city's defenders.
