"The Upper Silesian Tragedy is a series of Soviet repressions against the indigenous population of Upper Silesia. The repressions were particularly intense between the entry of the Red Army in January 1945 and April/May of the same year. Rapes, robberies and death sentences issued to random civilians became a brutal reality for the population of our region. There were also mass deportations of able-bodied men deep into the USSR. Terrible living conditions, violence from the authorities and backbreaking work meant that many of those deported never returned to their families..."
