Identification of non-smooth dynamical systems by data-driven techniques

Abstract:

Non-smooth mechanical systems frequently describe very complex dynamical behaviors, and so are very subtle to manage. On top of that, quite often the mechanical behaviour lurking in the background it not fully understood, since it may involve a lot of nonlinear phenomena that are overlooked and treated in approximate phenomenological way. This is quite different from smooth systems, where the underlying basic governing law are known to an adequate extent. Therefore, they represent examples in which data-driven techniques can really help to understand the mechanics which is behind the dynamical outcome, not only providing a model but hopefully giving knowledge, and so being very beneficial. A technique recently developed, that is based on a well-known free software for data-driven analysis, is illustrated.
