John Ioannidis: The best epidemiologists remained silent – for fear of being “wiped out.”

The world-renowned Stanford epidemiologist delivers a damning assessment of the COVID-19 years: Science has been overshadowed by polarization, ideology, and a toxic climate.

Ioannidis reports that he and members of his family were attacked and even received death threats. The consequences for science have been devastating. Many qualified epidemiologists saw what happened to critics – and chose to remain silent.

“If we tried to do or say anything, we would be completely wiped out. Our careers would be over. Who knows, maybe we would even be dead,” colleagues told him.
