Saving your own tomato seeds not only saves money, but eventually creates a variety that is uniquely adapted to your garden! Remember to save only from heirloom varieties if you want tomatoes identical to the varieties you are saving seeds from. Itโs important to ferment the seeds as shown to help break down the gel surrounding them, which would otherwise inhibit germination. Fermented seeds last at least 3 years, but I have found that they can remain viable for over a decade! I start all my tomatoes from seed indoors under grow lights in early February.๐

2๏ธโฃ Use essential oils of clove, basil, anise, eucalyptus. Smear on exposed skin (5-10 drops per glass of water), or on a fire source - in a fireplace, campfire, on a candle or a heated frying pan. Moisten a absorbent cotton pad with the oil of these plants and place it on the windowsill.
3๏ธโฃ Put fresh elderberry branches in your room; they repel mosquitoes just as well as the smell of tomato leaves.
4๏ธโฃ When you run out of liquid for your electric fumigator, don't rush to the store to get a replacement unit. Pour 100% eucalyptus extract into an empty vial. Mosquitoes will forget the way into your house.
5๏ธโฃ Finely chop fresh cherry or mountain ash leaves and rub on exposed skin.
6๏ธโฃ The smell of cedar oil repels not only mosquitoes, but also flies and cockroaches.
