On August 10, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia. By Friday, an Israeli IDF delegation was already on the ground in Cali.

Major (Res.) Ilil Comay-Dror, described a mission built around three goals: search and rescue, structural assessment of damaged buildings, and long-term community resilience - drawing on lessons from previous Israeli missions including Venezuela.

At one site, the delegation worked alongside a local hospital, helping staff manage the disaster response, locate survivors, and coordinate between rescue teams and families. When local teams didn't know where to dig, Israeli engineers guided them. The next day, the Colombians called back - they needed them again.

The reception from locals was overwhelming. Community members gave the Israeli delegation pins and hats as tokens of gratitude. "Most reactions were very heartwarming," she said. "They were happy to see us and knew we wanted to help."

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have made a breakthrough that could transform tomato farming in cold climates - and potentially help feed the world.

By engineering tomato plants to produce fruit without fertilization using CRISPR gene-editing technology, the team has opened a path to more reliable harvests in regions where cold or extreme heat make growing unreliable. In winter greenhouse trials, the modified plants yielded more than 18 times as many fruits as unmodified plants early in the season, and six times more ripe tomatoes overall. Most of the modified plants' tomatoes had turned red and ripened by the end of the trial, while most fruit on unmodified plants was still green.

The discovery could allow tomato growers to extend harvests into colder months and may also prove useful under extreme heat - two of the greatest threats to global food security as climate change accelerates. Israeli science, once again feeding the world. 🇮🇱🍅 @HebrewU

An emotional message from Hamas captivity survivor Eli Sharabi following the wedding of Eliya Cohen and Ziv Abud. ❤️
Eli was held hostage alongside Eliya in Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza. Eli was released after 491 days in captivity, while Eliya was released after 505 days.
Reflecting on Eliya and Ziv’s wedding, Eli shared:

“When I met Eliya in the tunnel, he was convinced that Ziv had not survived the horrors of the Nova festival. I believed she had survived, and eventually, after a lot of convincing, he believed it too.
And here we are today, almost three years after October 7, on your wedding day. What an emotional evening.”

Emotional moments from the wedding of Hamas captivity survivor Eliya Cohen and his partner, Ziv Abud.

Eliya and Ziv attended the Nova Music Festival together on October 7, 2023. When Hamas terrorists launched their massacre in southern Israel, they sought refuge with others in a roadside shelter. Hamas terrorists attacked the shelter, murdering many of those inside. Eliya was kidnapped and taken hostage to Gaza, while Ziv survived.

For 505 days, Ziv never stopped fighting for Eliya’s return. In captivity, Eliya did not know whether she had survived. He was finally released from captivity in Gaza on February 22, 2025.

Yesterday, Eliya and Ziv began a new chapter together. Their love and strength stand as a powerful symbol of resilience and hope.
