O trabalho de Avi Chaprak é inusitado: ele ajuda frequentadores da praia de Ashdod, no sul de Israel, a recuperar anéis e outros pertences perdidos na areia.

Mais inusitado foi o que ele encontrou no mês passado: uma moeda cipriota banhada à prata enterrada na areia, de cerca de 2.500 anos, raríssima, proveniente da antiga cidade de Salamina, costa leste de Chipre.

É a primeira moeda desse tipo já encontrada em Israel, cunhada durante o Império Persa. E é uma evidência das ligações marítimas e comerciais entre Israel e Chipre há mais de dois milênios.

Chaprak entregou a moeda para a Autoridade de Antiguidades de Israel. "Se, com a descoberta, contribuí para a pesquisa da história de Israel, é uma grande honra", disse.

O solo — e a areia — de Israel nunca deixam de contar sua história e de surpreender!

A federal judge dismissed with prejudice a lawsuit against AB 715, a California law addressing antisemitism in K-12 schools. This decision bars the plaintiffs from bringing the same claims again. Holocaust survivors finally get to celebrate an important Jewish milestone. This is Jewish resilience and pride.

A bar or bat mitzvah marks the moment a Jewish boy (13) or girl (12) becomes a full member of the Jewish community. As children during the Holocaust, these 35 survivors never got to celebrate that milestone.

Last week, in a moving initiative by the Claims Conference, the Ra'anana Municipality, and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, they finally did, gathering at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital.

Researchers at Bar-Ilan University in Israel have developed a groundbreaking encryption method designed to protect sensitive communications permanently - even if the encryption key is exposed years or decades in the future.

The research addresses a growing threat known as "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later," in which hostile actors record and store encrypted internet traffic today, waiting for the day when quantum computers or key exposure allow them to decrypt it retroactively. The Bar-Ilan team proved that certain standard encryption systems, when implemented correctly, are already "incompressible" - meaning an attacker would have no choice but to store every encrypted message in full, making large-scale interception and future decryption practically impossible. "It is like driving an ordinary car and suddenly discovering that it is bulletproof," said doctoral student Shani Ben-David. In an era where sensitive data may remain relevant for decades, Israeli science is once again leading the way.

On July 31, 1940, a Nazi police unit publicly abused Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak Hagerman in Olkusz, Poland, during “Bloody Wednesday”. Many Jews were beaten and humiliated. Rabbi Hagerman was murdered in Majdanek in 1942 and the Jews of Olkusz were deported to Auschwitz, where many were murdered by the Nazis. We remember.

Um jornal libanês ligado a apoiadores do Hezbollah lançou uma campanha de boicote ao novo filme do Homem-Aranha, que estreou nesta semana, por causa da participação do produtor judeu Avi Arad, que é israelense-americano.

O motivo alegado do boicote é o apoio de Avi ao direito de Israel de se defender após os ataques de 7 de Outubro e sua atuação pública em defesa da libertação dos reféns sequestrados pelo Hamas, incluindo o uso do símbolo da campanha pelos reféns durante o Oscar de 2024. Ironicamente, o grupo terrorista ignora que a produção também tem Mark Ruffalo no elenco, um dos artistas mais críticos a Israel na atualidade.

O boicote segue um histórico de restrições no Líbano a produções com participação de israelenses, como os filmes da Mulher-Maravilha estrelados por Gal Gadot, que não foram exibidos nos cinemas do país por causa da origem da atriz.

🇮🇱 Two years ago today, Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, a guest of the Iranian state in one of its most secure compounds. The operation was later acknowledged by Israel. Within weeks his successor, Yahya Sinwar, was named. That October, Sinwar too was gone.
