O que as eleições israelenses revelam sobre a diversidade de Jerusalém e do Estado judeu? Na região do bairro cristão da Cidade Velha de Jerusalém, a Lista Conjunta Árabe, por exemplo, recebeu quase 57% dos votos; mas partidos judaicos, como o Likud, o Sionismo Religioso e o Judaísmo Unido da Torá, também foram votados. Isso porque o bairro cristão não é habitado exclusivamente por cristãos, e a composição eleitoral da região reflete a complexidade da sociedade israelense.

Em Israel, judeus, cristãos e muçulmanos convivem com diferentes identidades e posições políticas. Nas eleições deste ano, os partidos árabes chegaram a uma projeção de 19 cadeiras no Knesset, o Parlamento israelense, que tem 120 assentos. Além disso, nem todo árabe israelense é muçulmano, vota em partidos árabes ou compartilha das mesmas posições políticas. As eleições ajudam a mostrar uma sociedade diversa, que vai muito além das percepções simplificadas sobre o país.

O ator britânico Sir Patrick Stewart, conhecido por interpretar o capitão Jean-Luc Picard na série Star Trek e o Professor Xavier na franquia X-Men, morreu na quarta-feira (28), aos 86 anos.

Além dos destaques na carreira, o ator tinha uma relação especial com Israel. Em 2012, esteve no país para estrelar Hunting Elephants (O último roubo), uma comédia israelense filmada em Jerusalém, ao lado dos atores Sasson Gabai e Moni Moshonov.

Sua ligação com o país começou um ano antes, em sua primeira visita. Na ocasião, contou que havia dito à família e aos amigos que gostaria de voltar, não como turista, mas para participar de um filme israelense.

Ao se despedir de Israel, deixou uma mensagem de carinho: “Vou sentir falta de Israel. Do lugar, das pessoas e da comida”.

Os israelenses corresponderam. Em 2013, quando Hunting Elephants abriu o Festival de Cinema de Jerusalém, o público fez questão de homenagear Stewart, com uma declaração coletiva: “Nós te amamos, Patrick!”.

O ator também apoiou a American Jewish World Service, organização judaica de atuação humanitária internacional.

Seu talento, sua trajetória artística e o carinho que demonstrou por Israel deixam lembranças que atravessam gerações.

Sua memória jamais será esquecida.

O Memorial do Holocausto de São Paulo, em parceria com o Centro de Educação e Memória do Holocausto da StandWithUs Brasil, realizará o Ato em Memória à Noite dos Cristais Quebrados.

Neste ano, com o tema “Reconstrução após o trauma”, o ato relembra a noite de novembro de 1938 em que sinagogas, casas e instituições judaicas foram depredadas e destruídas. Among the more than 1,000 victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre in southern Israel was 43-year-old Srithat Kawao, a husband and Thai agricultural worker who cultivated cassava and avocados on Kibbutz Nir Oz. He was one of 11 Thai workers brutally murdered on the kibbutz, while five others were kidnapped.

This is only one of countless heart-shattering stories from Hamas’ massacre.

A atriz esteve em Israel para participar das eleições e exercer seu direito ao voto. Seu relato evidencia um desafio enfrentado por muitos judeus e israelenses que vivem fora de Israel, de lidar com a hostilidade e o preconceito.
