My rat ate the others
I dont know wthat the fuxk happened but I came to check on my rats today before doing errands and I look into the cage just to find my hairless rat ATE MY OTHER TWO. She ate half the face off of my elderly baby posie down to her skull and ripped open the abdomen of my 5 month old moon (she is also 5 months old just from a different litter). They have never had signs of issues before, and they were all very cuddly with eachother. I have obviously never had this happen and ive owned many rats over the course of the last 10 years. Is there anything I could have done yo prevent it? I feel like ive failed my babies.
Update/more info:
So i have already brought the rat back to the store and told her the situation. I made it clear that she was still extremely people friendly but that i wasnt quite sure what had happened and wasnt sure if she was safe to be around other rats. And with my comment about the mites, I had not started any medication yet because I didnt have the money at the time. I had an appointment next week to get what I needed as i have finally gotten paid but in the mean time have been giving them baths once or twice a week to help with the itching. I feel like an absolute failure and guilty for returning the remaining rat, especially considering she might end up being euthanized, but I did what I felt was best considering I also have a lot going on in my life. I will not consider taking her back either as many suggested as I know for a fact i will not be able to provide the proper care and attention. Im sorry if I have dissapointed any of you but what has been done is done and there is no changing it.
