The BAC TSR-2, acronym for Tactical Strike Reconnaissance-Mach 2, was the winner of the Ministry of Supply GOR.339 issued in March 1957 to the UK air industry.
It combined the English Electric-Shorts' P.17 and Vickers-Armstrongs' Type 571 winning submissions, with the former company being a sub-contractor. From 1960 onwards, work on the project was conducted by the government-pressured merger of the manufacturers, the British Aircraft Corporation

Despite the harsh requirements put forth, the TSR-2 was able to fulfill most of them. Its main features were a high-wing, a 60° sweeped delta with down turned tips, which improved maneuverability, and blown flaps throughout the wing's trailing edge, ensuring STOL performance
