BAC TSR-2 in a descent with airbrakes fully deployed. Piloted by Don Knight, Peter Moneypenny as navigator

The BAC TSR-2, acronym for Tactical Strike Reconnaissance-Mach 2, was the winner of the Ministry of Supply GOR.339 issued in March 1957 to the UK air industry.
It combined the English Electric-Shorts' P.17 and Vickers-Armstrongs' Type 571 winning submissions, with the former company being a sub-contractor. From 1960 onwards, work on the project was conducted by the government-pressured merger of the manufacturers, the British Aircraft Corporation

BAC TSR-2 first flight, piloted by Ronald "Bee" Beamont c.s. Tarnish 1 and Donald Bowen as navigator.
Taking off from Boscombe Down. 27 September 1964

Despite the harsh requirements put forth, the TSR-2 was able to fulfill most of them. Its main features were a high-wing, a 60° sweeped delta with down turned tips, which improved maneuverability, and blown flaps throughout the wing's trailing edge, ensuring STOL performance
