McDonnell Douglas pre-production F/A-18 converted into the NASA X-53 Active Aeroelastic Wing

AAW was a NASA/Boeing/Air Force flight research program aimed at optimizing wing control power, while minimizing maneuver air loads and aerodynamic drag.
This was achieved by offsetting the wing's twist with the deployment of leading and trailing edge aerodynamic tabs.
