Google to allow changing email address for your account
Eligibility
- Soon users will be able to "change" your email address (username) on the same Google account.
- This is available for account with email address that ends in @gmail.com, and the new email address will need to end in @gmail.com.
- You can check whether the change has rolled out to your account by going to Google Account > Personal Info > Email (gradually rolling out).
- Note: The support page in English has not updated to reflect this change at the time of writing.

What happens after the change
- The old email address will be used as a recovery email.
- Email will continue to be received via the old and new email addresses.
- All the data stored in the particular account will be intact.
- Users won't be able to create another new email address for the next 12 months, but will have the option to revert back to the old email address.
- Users can continue to sign in to Google with old and new email addresses.

Limitations
- One Google account will allow up to three new creations of email addresses, and this action is not reversible.
- ChromeOS users are advised to make a complete backup first before doing so. After changing, remove and re-add the account with the new email address. Otherwise, the home directory might be empty when you sign in.
- Some of your application settings might be reset after the change.
- Old email address will still be displayed on calendar events and other content created before the email address change.

LineageOS 23.0 supports Pixel 4 series
- LineageOS now provides official builds based on Android 16 for Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and Pixel 4a.
- Out of the 34 Pixel devices (including Pixel Tablet) released since 2016, 8 of the oldest devices are still receiving LineageOS 22.2 builds (Pixel 1~3a series).
- P.S. With Google releasing both Android 16 QPR1 and QPR2 source code recently, LineageOS 23.1 and 23.2 is currently under development.

BREAKING: Google will release the source code to AOSP only 2 times a year

After previously delaying the September QPR 1 AOSP source code release by almost 2 months, Google has now announced that it will release the source code to AOSP every 6 months only i.e in Q2 and Q4.

"Effective in 2026, to align with our trunk-stable development model and ensure platform stability for the ecosystem, we will publish source code to AOSP in Q2 and Q4. For building and contributing to AOSP, we recommend utilizing android-latest-release instead of aosp-main. The aosp-latest-release manifest branch will always reference the most recent release pushed to AOSP. For more information, see Changes to AOSP.”

Quarterly software update for the remaining two years on Pixel
If you owned an older Pixel device that is still receiving updates, you might not be surprised how Google is releasing updates inconsistently. After 6 months of observing the patterns, some are able to tell that Google might have switched to a quarterly update model, and that is actually the case here.

The change is noticeable when Google did not release builds for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro initially last July. This is also when Google started to not include all the security patches but only the critical ones monthly, with rest of the patches released quarterly.

According to the words of the support team, Pixel devices will be switching to a quarterly update cadence when the phone had about 24 months of support remaining. This explains why this month's update had excluded Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro. Just like the case for security patches, Google might release builds outside of the quarterly cycle if they deemed it "critical."

In short, this means older supported Pixel devices will continue to receive Android OS upgrade and QPRs update, whichever is applicable, alongside Pixel Drop. They just won't receive monthly fixes and security patches anymore.
