San Valentín, en su prisión, rogaba a Jesús que iluminase a los gentiles con los rayos de su divina luz. Asterio, lugarteniente del prefecto de Roma, oyó su plegaria, y le prometió creer que Jesús es la luz del mundo, si devolvía la vista a su hija. Púsose el santo en oración, y restituyó la vista a la ciega con lo que, Asterio, con toda su familia, se convirtió. Algunos días después, Valentín fue azotado y, finalmente, se le cortó la cabeza.

MEDITACIÓN
SOBRE LA GRACIA

I. La gracia de Dios se parece a la luz, en que, aquélla como ésta, se da a todos. A nadie la rehúsa Dios, y es suficiente para salvarnos si la queremos aprovechar. ¡Cuánto reconocimiento debemos a Dios, especialmente nosotros los cristianos, que hemos sido colmados de gracias! ¿Cuántas has recibido? ¿No han sido inútiles? Aprovecha las que Dios te acuerda; trabaja mientras te alumbra la luz. Agradece a Dios por sus mercedes, no sea que ciegues la fuente con tu ingratitud.
II. Tu inteligencia a menudo es iluminada por medio de estas gracias, que San Agustín llama rayos de la luz eterna. ¡Qué de veces Dios te ha hecho conocer claramente la vanidad del mundo y la solidez de los bienes del cielo! Alimenta esta luz celestial meditando con frecuencia las grandes verdades que la fe nos enseña.
III. Sería inútil esta luz si, después de haber iluminado la inteligencia, no excitase la voluntad a la práctica de las virtudes difíciles. Lo propio de la gracia es hacer obrar, enfervorizar el corazón del que la recibe, y disminuir las dificultades que suscita la virtud. ¿No es verdad que a veces te sientes atraído por Dios tan dulcemente que el sacrificio de ti mismo te parece fácil? Aprovecha los preciosos momentos de la gracia; son semejantes a una semillita que en cierra un gran árbol: la eternidad depende de ese momento. (San Bernardo).

Today my Church had the privilege of being visited by the Auxiliary Bishop
