Russiaโs economy rebounds from unprecedented sanctions, defying predictions of collapse.
From The Economist:
The rouble is now as valuable as it was before Russiaโs invasion of Ukraine in late February, and Russia appears to be keeping up with payments of its foreign-currency bonds.
The real economy is surprisingly resilient too. Total electricity consumption has fallen only a smidge. After a lull in March, Russians seem to be spending fairly freely on cafรฉs, bars and restaurants.
The biggest reason for the economyโs resilience relates to fossil fuels. Since the invasion Russia has exported at least $65bn-worth of fossil fuels via shipments and pipelines. In the first quarter of 2022 the governmentโs revenues from hydrocarbons rose by over 80% year on year.

Russiaโs military operation in Ukraine wonโt end until the country is โcompletely denazified and demilitarized, so that it no longer poses a threat to the Russian Federation and cannot be transformed into an anti-Russia, as the West has tried to do in the past 30 years,โ says deputy speaker of Russian parliament Pyotr Tolstoy.

Former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN inspector Scott Ritter praises Russia for annual celebration of Victory Day, says Nazi ideology โalive and wellโ in Ukraine today.
When was the last time the United States celebrated Victory Day? When was the last time we had a parade honoring the men and women who sacrificed so much to defeat such a hateful ideology?
This May 9th celebration isnโt just about the defeat of Nazi Germany seven decades ago, but the continuing struggle against Nazi ideology that exists in Ukraine today.

An AFP article about Ukrainian doctors working in a Zaporizhzhia military hospital notes that they feel a "lack of motivation" when it comes to treating wounded Russian soldiers, and only do it โif necessary.โ

The man in charge of the hospital, Major Viktor Pyssanko, is quoted referring to the wounded Russians as โanimals,โ while another doctor reveals that the hospital staff joke about harming them.
