The Shakirin Mosque
The Shakirin Mosque in Istanbul became the first mosque in the world to be designed by a female designer, Zeynep Fadillioglu.
Briefly about the designer, Zeynep Fadillioglu studied computer science and then turned to art history and interior design. After completing her studies at the London School of Design, she founded her own firm to organize collaborations between designers working in luxury restaurants, homes and hotels in Qatar, Northern Europe, India and Turkey.
In the project of the Shakirin Mosque, the designer managed to comply with all generally accepted norms, harmoniously combining elements of modern and traditional Ottoman architecture. The chandelier in the shape of rings is decorated with 99 names of Allah, and the turquoise niche of the mihrab vaguely resembles a sea shell.
