Prisons and punishment have always been established within the Catholic Church. This is all for the need of the preservation of lawful authority, good moral order in society, and the protection of others. Such crimes and sins against the Lord (especially ones that will have an impact on a healthy society) are required to be justly punished. As God Himself punishes crime, and as lawful authority comes directly from Him, therefore such authority has the right to punish.
